Manager Steve Lomas couldn’t hide his frustration at the manner in which we conceded the three goals to Bolton yesterday.
Speaking to the official site following he three one defeat, the gaffer explained that for him it was a frustrating game all round as every time he thought we were getting a grip in the game and likely to do something, it felt like we conceded a goal to knock us back.
‘I said to the lads after the game that we can’t keep conceding poor goals when we are playing well. There was a lot of effort, commitment and quality on show from us and in the second half we forced Bolton to sit back and soak up a lot of pressure.’
Lomas says that the first goal was particularly hard to take, especially given the head injury to Nicky Bailey in the build up to it and Lomas hasn’t seen any referee wave play on when it comes to head injuries for a long term – let alone this season, but overall all three of the goals we could’ve done better with and they were very poor from a defensive point of view.
Striker Scott McDonald did travel with the squad for the game, but failed a late fitness test after tweaking his hamstring in training, however Steve Lomas doesn’t feel that it will keep him out of contention for too long especially as we now have the international break to consider and he should return to full training during that time. As should the likes of Paul Beevers, so hopefully come the game against Barnsley Lomas thinks he may have a full squad to choose from.
