Millwall’s League 1 play-off final ended with a defeat against Barnsley at Wembley on Sunday.

The Millwall bid for an instant return to the Championship ended with Barnsley running out three-one winners in a final that will (unfortunately) be recalled for (albeit minority) scenes in the crowd.

It couldn’t have been a worse start for Millwall with Webster lost before a ball was kicked to an injury in the pre-match warm up, Craig came into the side but Barnsley less than two-minutes to open the scoring through Fletcher as he managed to hold off Edwards to beat Archer.

This lead, as Millwall struggled to get into the match, was doubled when Hammill curled home a second from distance to have Barnsley in control with only 19-minutes played with him allowed to run unchallenged.

Millwall were back in the match before half time through Beevers when he scored from close range on 34-minutes but there wasn’t to be a Lions comeback with the price paid for the poor opening.

Victory, and promotion it brought Barnsley, was confirmed when Isgrove headed home on 74-minutes to restore the two-goal lead with Archer failing to claim a corner leaving him with a simple finish.

Despite finishing above Barnsley in the final League 1 table it counted for nothing for Millwall with the Tykes dealing with the Lions as they had Walsall in the semi-finals leaving us with another season of third tier football ahead of us.

Who was the Lions MotM?

That’s what the latest poll is asking so do cast a vote.

Did a starter, or someone from the bench, offer the most?

Select the name you want from the list in the poll to your right, we’re also looking for your thoughts and views too so do share some of those with your comments below.
