The draw for round two of this year’s League Cup competition will take place at around 10pm tonight following the Luton Town v Aston Villa match.

The draw for the second round – that sees non European competing Premier League sides enter – takes place on Wednesday August 10, and will be screened live at 10pm on Sky Sports and Sky Sports News following the culmination of the Luton v Villa game.

With most ties taking place yesterday evening, Burton, Bury, Fleetwood, Leeds, QPR and Swindon will also find out their fates later this evening, and the first round is completed on Thursday night with Bristol Rovers facing Cardiff.

The 13 top flight teams joining at round two will be seeded, along with Newcastle and Norwich, and joined by ten winning sides from round one.

With ongoing building work at Anfield, Liverpool have already requested that if they are drawn at home for round two that the game will take place at the stadium of the opposition club.

The Football League Board will determine a compensation level to be paid by Liverpool should that happen.

‘The board of the EFL carefully considered a request from Liverpool and felt that in these particular circumstances, it was wholly appropriate to agree to a fixture reversal.’

For those sides in Europe and not entering just yet, they may well have a weather eye on the upsets so far in the competition and how that could give them an easier on paper passageway through to the trophy.
