A poor and uninspiring game between two poor teams who struggled to play any flowing football. It was fitting that the game was settled by an own goal!

It took us ten minutes to get hold of the ball and they had possession but created little with it other than a good diagonal ball across the box which Fordey plucked out of the air off their blokes head. After a jittery start Malone made a couple of runs down the left which got the crowd cheering but we couldn’t really create an opening.
Moussi made a tidy start and Bailey was charging around like a pit bull. Woolford had one or two nice touches and Waghorn was trying his best against a giant defender with limited success. It was similar for McDonald who got muscled out all the time and the ref warned him and warned him and didn’t book him until late on. He wasn’t getting any joy and had a poor game by his standards. Chaplow was running around with limited success but did create a good opening from the right but McDonald hit a spectacular air shot. Woolford do get put in from the right and Butland made a good save from his shot. They had a good one two on the edge of the box but Forde made a good save. The back four looked more solid with Beevers there and Robbo played steadily. Hoyte did his job defending but hit a woeful cross into the crowd. The first half ended goalless with little to commend it.

They came out of the traps early at the beginning of the second half but didn’t have a finish in them. There was stalemate for ten minutes but then Feeney came on for Chaplow and Morison replaced McDonald and we started to press. Morison got put through but the keeper smothered his effort and then Feeney was put through, somebody got a touch and then their bloke stooped low to place it beautifully beyond Butland’s reach. We all breathed a sigh of relief.
They huffed and puffed, brought on donkey Scotland and lively Dagnall but couldn’t blow our house down. We went deeper in the middle and gave them encouragement but they couldn’t make much of it. Moussi got his foot in a few times, Bailey rattled their cage once too often and got his 5th yellow for the season but Robbo and Beevers held firm in the middle. Feeney and Morison wasted time by the corner flag and we were home and dry.
It wasn’t pretty but it was three points and we moved up the table. We can play so much better. No real candidate for MOM but Waghorn or Bailey or even Malone could share the champagne.
