Having been shortlisted alongside Yeovil Town and Morecambe for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Team of the Round performance, Millwall have come out as winners.
Following four goals from Lee Gregory in the five three victory, with the scoring finished with an Aiden O’Brien effort, the Plymouth Argyle performance won out amongst their judging panel.
As well as a trophy to mark the win, there is also a donation of Johnstone’s Paint which can be used on a club community project, and the club have donated that to one of their charity partners.
Speaking to the official site after the win was announced, manager Neil Harris said.
‘It was a great performance from the team and we are thrilled to have been rewarded with the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Team of the Round award. To score five goals away from home against any team is always a great achievement, but to do so against a Plymouth side high on confidence was even more impressive. Hopefully we can use that result as a building block for our Area Semi-Final tie away at Southend United and progress further in the competition.’
Richard Mazurkiewicz, marketing manager of Johnstone’s Trade, added that it had been an interesting shortlist as any of the three teams could’ve been rightful winners but with our scoreline and Plymouth’s league form, we just won out.
‘There were some fantastic performances in the Area Quarter-Finals of the tenth Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and it was a tough decision for the judges to make. Millwall were certainly worthy winners of the accolade considering Plymouth’s form going into the encounter. Neil Harris’ side stamped their authority on the game with five impressive goals and a standout performance from Lee Gregory. We congratulate Millwall on their success and hope their supply of Johnstone’s Paint is well received.’
