The last week has seen Shaun Hutchinson sign a new deal at Millwall and we have two players talking about victory over Sheffield United at the weekend.

Defender Hutchinson penned a new long term deal at the club at the beginning of the month, and his contract now runs until the summer of 2020.

The centre back is nearing his 50th appearance for the club since joining back in 2016 and having more than played his part in our promotion push from League One last season, this season has also seen manager Neil Harris turn to him to wear the captain’s armband on a number of occasions.

Speaking to the official site after penning his new contract, he explained.

‘I’m absolutely over the moon. Since I came to this club I have always enjoyed my time here. Working with the gaffer and the lads has helped me to settle here and I do believe this manager has created a team that can bring success. I had targets when I first signed here and that was to get promoted and play as many games as possible. If things keep going the way they are going then I will be over the moon.’

Having taken a three one victory over high flying Sheffield United, Lee Gregory was heavily involved in that win as he grabbed his third goal of the season and set up Mahlon Romeo for his strike and he remained confident that goals would now keep on coming given his eight games without a goal prior to the match.

Speaking this week as he reflected on the game, he explained.

‘I’m happy with my performance, but the win is more important – that’s all that matters. I think I’ve been playing like that every week. I played like that against Hull in our last home game, but unfortunately I didn’t score. Now I’ve scored, it looks a bit better. I’m enjoying my football at the moment – hopefully the goals will keep coming.’

He went on to say.

‘It’s always good to score a goal, but it feels that much sweeter today. To get an assist, too, is the icing on the cake. I felt a bit ill, a bit under the weather, but nothing was going to stop me playing against Sheffield United.’

With Romeo getting his first strike of the season in the game, he was also in front of club media this week as the players returned to training.

‘Gregs has done really well in tracking back, tackling and winning the ball back, and then the weight of the pass through to me was perfect. I actually ended up slipping and two-footing the ball in, but they all count! Me getting more forward in the second half was planned. We decided to match up with them and it worked – we came out on top. We became more attacking, effectively playing with wing-backs.’

He went on to add.

‘I’m happy with winning 3-1 at home. The goal is just a bonus for me. Sheffield United are a really good side and we needed to respect them. They’ve come up with us from League One and are now fourth in the League, but we did a job on them on Saturday.’
