Following the speculation that we were going to do a three way deal with Southampton and Norwich for centre half Jos Hooiveld, that has come to pass today as Millwall announced his arrival earlier tonight.

The 31 year old defender comes to us having more than played his part in Southampton’s rise from the lower divisions into the top flight, and having agreed a season long loan stay at Norwich, that deal has now been cancelled and he moves to The Den on the same basis.

In his time with Norwich he made six appearances, last getting on the pitch back in November, and he will remain with us until the end of the current season.

He’s out of contract in the summer so if all goes well manager Ian Holloway has no doubt made the move with a potential eye on a permanent deal.

Speaking to the official site as his loan arrival was announced, Hooiveld explained.

‘I want as much success as possible – as many wins and as many clean sheet as we can – which is just what every footballer hopes for. It’s very important to be playing regularly and I’m no different from anyone else. I had a very nice and positive conversation with the manager. We had a good connection. Every game from now on is massive. It isn’t just one that decides it – there are 20.’

He has been handed the No 5 shirt for his time with us, and could make his debut in the game tomorrow evening against Reading.
