Manager Ian Holloway has said he couldn’t be prouder of the team as a two one victory over Middlesbrough today took us five unbeaten in the league.
In that unbeaten run, we have also picked up three victories and for the first time in what feels like an eternity, Millwall are now back out of the drop zone by a single point – and even though Charlton continue to have a game in hand all we have to do now to ensure safety this season is keep our noses ahead of those in the bottom three.
Speaking to the official site following a Stefan Maierhofer brace in the first half, Holloway admitted that their late consolation did make for a nervy final ten minutes, but he was obviously delighted with our third straight away victory, especially because of what it did for the league table.
‘It’s a fantastic win for us and I’m proud of the players. Playing today, with all the games and results yesterday, was that much more difficult. We had certain things to concentrate on and we did, which was fantastic.’
The gaffer goes on to say that he was disappointed that we didn’t go on to ‘win’ the second half as well given how we played in the first half.
‘We had the chances, before and after their goal, to put the game to bed. I thought Lee Martin’s goal shouldn’t have been ruled out, but hopefully that won’t affect the goal difference later on.’
He also adds that despite the lift that being out of the bottom three will be for everybody, he knows it’s pretty pointless looking at the table otherwise because at the moment it doesn’t count, what counts is how it looks after the next three games.
‘What matters it what it shows after the next three games. Now we have got a horrible journey to get back and prepare for Monday, but we will be fully focused and ready for it. Nobody has to tell me how important a game it is.’
Doncaster, Queens Park Rangers and then finally Bournemouth.
It’s now in our hands, and we just have to ensure we do enough to stay ahead of the three below us, and if in that time we can push a bit further up the table then that will just be a bonus as we prepare for next season.
