Manager Ian Holloway was a happy man at full time in our one nil victory over Cardiff in the day’s early kick off and speaking to the official site following the game, one man in particular came in for special praise, and that was match winner Danny Shittu.

‘The lads are giving Danny some stick because he’s gone and got his big head on it. He’s a great ambassador for this club and you can see how much the fans love him.’

Holloway goes on to repeat his earlier line that since returning to fitness following his Achilles injury, Shittu has been knocking on his door telling him he’s ready for a first team return, but he wanted to make sure he was right and take his time with him so there weren’t any further complications, but having been given the chance – and his first league start of the season – he returned in fantastic style with a good performance topped off by the winning goal.

‘We’re all delighted that he has gone and got the goal because he’s a big personality around the place and is a key part of the squad.’

As for the game itself, and with the manager making five changes following the draw with Wigan in midweek, the gaffer couldn’t have been happier with the performance of the lads who came him and until the 54th minute the only thing he thought our performance was missing was the goal to separate the sides.

‘It was just about getting that goal, we worked incredibly hard and had quite a few chances. In the end we could maybe have made it a bit easier but defensively we were good. The performances was a professional one and I’m pleased with that.’

The manager ends by saying that everybody wants to start climbing that table again now and of course the best and only way of doing that is to pick up wins, so this is another valuable three points for us.
