Holloway Pleased With Stevenage Test

Manager Ian Holloway has said he was delighted with the test that Stevenage posed us in our two all draw with them.

With goals from Nicky Bailey and a Jermaine Easter penalty sandwiching a brace from Stevenage’s Simon Walton, Millwall remain unbeaten in pre season and will have no doubt gained a lot fitness wise from the run out.

With Holloway picking two different sides in each half again, he admitted to the press after the game that the first half was definitely the better showing from us, as second half we had some organisation issues that gave us problems.

‘I’m delighted with the first half, the organisation let us down in the second half with a couple of the younger people and fellow that took the two freekicks. I thought we could have been further in front. Lee Gregory was unlucky with the one he lobbed over, normally he puts that in.’

Having entered the half time break a goal to the good, we were quickly two one behind, and despite those organisations issues, Holloway was pleased with the efforts the players put in to get themselves back into the match.

‘Again, I’m delighted with the response, and with what I came up with to get us back into it with moving a midfield player. I didn’t get that information on early enough or quick enough, so that’s something I need to work on – taking more responsibility to listen when there’s something in the war going on. I’m the general on the side so they have to get that.’

The overall play and style was something that pleased the gaffer as well, and he says that even had we lost the game he’s have still been saying the same things because he feels the lads really took a step forward in terms of how he wants them to play this campaign, and whilst there is obviously still an awful lot of work to do, and issues to be ironed out, the early signs are putting a smile on his face.
