Millwall manager Neil Harris has called on the side to show some consistency as we face the ‘most difficult month’ of our Championship campaign this year.
Having taken four points from a possible six with victory over Sheffield United and a draw with Aston Villa, we go into the tie against Middlesbrough with Harris adamant we won’t make the mistakes we did in November that saw us drop points based on the performances we put in.
Speaking to the official site as he met with the media this week, the gaffer explained.
‘We felt like we left some points on the pitch last month, that’s for sure. However, we have had a positive start to December. It’s a tough month, probably the toughest month on paper that we have this season, but we have had a strong start.’
Harris went on to say.
‘Middlesbrough at home is another tough one. Boro are a team that should be near the top of the League and have spent wisely, recruiting from this level and above. Maybe they have been a bit inconsistent but they have really good footballers and have a lot of pace in their team on the counter-attack. What a great Christmas period. We have no fear at all and we have to go and attack the games.’
With Millwall’s next three fixtures pitting them against top eight sides in the table – Boro, Derby County and league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers – he knows it’ll be a tough run for the players but they have his faith.
‘You have to give a level of respect to some players. We will have to be aggressive in our approach but we have to have a patient side too or these teams can hurt you. But we to impose ourselves on the game as well. It’s not about letting Boro and Wolves dictate play, we have to get about and impose ourselves on the match. That will be key.’
Midfielder Shaun Williams comes back into contention for the game after his time with the U23s following a knee injury and goalkeeper Jordan Archer is also available following his bout with illness.
The game does come too soon for Fred Onyedinma, Shane Ferguson and Byron Webster however.
