Officially our new manager, Neil Harris, has said that accepting the position of gaffer when it was offered was a very ‘easy’ decision for him to make.

Having come in as Ian Holloway’s replacement after another dire season, form turned around under his charge but not enough to avoid relegation to League One and it was no great secret that he had definitely worked his way into the thoughts of John Berylson given our performances under him.

Speaking to the official site as news was announced of his permanent appointment, Chopper explained.

‘It was very easy, I’ve embraced it with a real open and positive frame of mind. The last eight weeks have been challenging and to come in to this as quickly was a bit of a surprise, but it’s the way it’s gone and I’ve enjoyed it. Yes, there is the disappointment of relegation, of course there is, but there is optimism for the future.’

Part of that optimism for him is the youngsters that have come through this season, and of course the way performances have turned under him and he also credits the professionalism of the players off the pitch as well in terms of how they took to him and then worked for him on the pitch.

‘The support I have had from the staff, the board and mainly from the fans has made it easy. The loyalty of the fans of the club is huge and the support the players get is quite outstanding at times, but to be in the bottom three for so long this season and have the support that the fans have given the players, shows that there is a sense of optimism and belief.’
