Manager Neil Harris has praised the desire shown by Millwall in the weekend’s victory over Leeds United.
Hosting Leeds at The Den for the game, an Aiden O’Brien effort in the 73rd minute of the game returned all three points and although granted the visitors had slightly more possession, they failed to get an effort on target and only had one shot across the 90 minutes such was the way Millwall contained them.
Speaking to the official site as he met with the media for his post game press conference, a clearly and understandably delighted Harris explained that the side had shown they ‘wanted it’ on the day and that made all the difference in the world.
‘We’ve played a lot of games this season where we’ve been as good as that, but not got the points. So it’s very pleasing to play that well and win the game. We knew it was going to be tough. Leeds are top of the League and have scored the most goals and conceded the least. We worked very hard on Thursday and Friday to make sure the team had the gameplan right – credit goes to the players for executing it. We out-fought and out-run Leeds and won every first and second ball.’
With the scoreline being narrow at one nil, it was a comfortable victory and if Harris had a disappointment it was in not taking a greater victory on the day in terms of the scoreline.
‘We could have had more. Steve Morison could be walking off with the matchball and George Saville should have done better with his chance. But, I’m pleased that we kept going.’
Adding.
‘We came in at half-time and the players knew that they were excellent. I deliver the message, but sometimes the players deliver their own. They came in with the bit between their teeth that they weren’t going to settle for a good performance and a point or coming off unlucky losers. They wanted it and that showed today.’
