Manager Neil Harris has confirmed there will be some changes for Millwall as they head to The Hive for tonight’s League Cup opener against Barnet.
Kicking off the 2016/17 League One season with a three nil victory over Oldham Athletic at the weekend, it’s now eyes to the League Cup against our League Two opponents and speaking to the official site in his pre game press conference, Harris’ focus was on giving game time to others in the squad – but also on ensuring we picked up back to back victories.
‘A few of the boys picked up knocks against Oldham so we will have to assess them. We don’t want to take any risks at this stage of the season so there could be some changes to the team. There is nothing to be gained by taking gambles on the fitness of players this early. It’s one of several matches we have in a short space of time so we have to manage the squad carefully.’
As for the game itself, Harris went on to say that having faced them last season in the competition we know how tough a prospect they will be.
‘It will be a tough game, there’s no doubt about that. We saw how good Barnet can be under Martin Allen in this same competition last season so we’re aware of the type of challenge we’ll be facing. But we go there determined to get a win and build on the promising start we had to the season against Oldham. This is a competition we want to do well in because it’s all about building momentum and form.’
