Manager Neil Harris has challenged the Millwall players ahead of the FA Cup fourth round tie against Rochdale this weekend.
Millwall host the League One relegation battlers this weekend after coming through the third round tie against Barnsley, but Harris has challenged the team to give themselves a cup run this season and not pass up the opportunity.
Speaking to the official site as he met with the media earlier today, Harris explained that he would make changes to the starting eleven but his aim remained victory.
‘There will be changes to the team but it’s a game that’s there to be won. We want to be in the next round of the Cup but I would be lying if I said the big focus isn’t on the League – playing Derby on Tuesday and then Reading next weekend. I have to think about the balance with team selection in preparation for that.’
With Jason Shackell coming in on loan from Derby County this week, Harris admitted the experienced player could get a speedy debut at the club.
‘Jason could well come in, yes. He hasn’t played a lot of first-team football recently but he is fit and is available. We have been chasing an experienced centre-half over the course of this transfer window. You can never have too many experienced players in the team or in the squad to lead. I felt that in the back-line we maybe needed another voice and some guidance.’
A cup run would certainly continue to lift spirits and bring in some extra cash for strengthening but Harris is right to focus on the league, with hopes of balancing the two.
