Millwall manager Neil Harris has said he’s happy to be patient in the January transfer window.
With most clubs taking a slow and measured approach to transfers as we head towards the half way stage of the window being open, Harris told the official site that he was happy to be patient and wait for those couple of deals that ‘spark’ the window really into life before he makes decisions on who and how many to add himself.
‘It’s been crazy. I have been watching the transfers closely and there has been around 11 loan deals over the last two days and I think that shows how thin on the ground it is at the moment. There has been next to no movement in The Championship whatsoever. Teams that are looking to loan, like ourselves, you’re almost waiting for that spark – someone to move and get the ball rolling.’
Harris went on to say he knew it would happen at some point, it’s always a waiting game largely this month but he’s determined to not rush into a deal that may not be the best piece of business he can do.
‘Once that happens then teams can start thinking about loaning players out because they will get someone in from somewhere else. We are having to be patient and wait for that knock-on effect. It’s not about panicking and taking someone that you aren’t comfortable with, it’s about getting the best player possible for our club. We have identified targets and spoke to clubs, agents, and players and we are in a good position with them. We just have to wait for the green light.’
Boosting his patience further has been Millwall’s run of form over the last month with only two defeats in the last eight matches.
‘The form of the players in our team, and the players on the bench waiting to get in, has been top draw. With that in mind, there is no immediate need for someone to come in. Hopefully that continues and it’s just about adding to the squad.’
