Sky highlights:

* Penalty decision poor👎
* Linesman’s decision spot on👍
* Jensen’s drop near the end, Cooper backed into him 😞 but should still be claiming these type of cross 👎
And the look on the Plymouth player’s face when he not only nicked a penalty but didn’t have to pay 20p for a bag for life.

Then the look on the same players face when he was stopped by the security guard Lino.

fair reflection of the game. Thanks. I would say about Esse (and I’m a massively impressed by him) to be THE player he does need to learn when to fuck around and when to keep it more simple but fuck me- he oozes talent.

As for the squad, I would also creatively criticise the wasteful nature we have with the ball at times. I counted a number of times when we won back possession only to cheaply give it away.

All in all, a good performance, 3 points in the bag. Not much not to like about that.
What is obvious with Esse is that the defensive side of his game has improved massively. Actually wins a fair few tackles to break up their or start our attacks..
At one stage in the second half he covered the far side of the pitch from me, dugout side, then sprinted across to cover a potential attack down their left wing...
When he's on the ball, defenders must wonder what the fuck he's going to do next...
Definitely agree he was MOM, but Honeyman puts in an unbelievable shift every game...
Was surprised De Norre got subbed I would've pulled Saville, who was on a yellow...

His blind flicks got us into trouble a couple of times.

Needs to ration them and know when and where to try them 🤷‍♂️
Some will work and some won’t. If you don’t try you’ll never know. This applies to life as well. Some of us are risk takers and some are risk averse mate. If you were coaching him how would you advise him to do what you want and when?

I have seen the penalty/offside debacle from many different angles now.
Firstly, if the pen had stood it would have been a travesty. Their bloke threw himself to the ground.
He had also clearly come back from an offside position to do so. The lino took a real long time to decide to raise his flag, but he was absolutely spot on.

The rest of us no-nothing football supporters would have come to the same conclusion as you, yet a professional football coach (in this instance, Shrek), couldn't understand why it wasn't given, or reversed.

Shrek recently said he didn't know why the England coaching job wasn't given to an English coach.
:grinning:

A hard earned 3 points with a well worked goal between Esse and Honeyman. I thought the back 4 all played well tonight. Felt sorry for Ivanovic who had zero service, Harris has to get better tactically against the bottom sides in this league.

Jensen must buy his gloves from the fishmongers, he’d be better off punching the ball more.
Strange you mention his gloves. In the first half he had a jar of something and rubbed some of the contents on his gloves!

He's being told to... he scares the fck out of the defence, which then brings them closer to him, freeing up space for the others.
exactly - players like esse will fuck up, get caught out, make wrong choices, but then they will do something out of the blue that not a single player on the ptich can do. i have started to notice that nearly all our attacking play is being played through him pretty much. it's not just about getting it right every time. sterlin was the master at this...lose it, lose it, lose it, lose it, then bang an assist, a goal. you have to be patient wtih flare players. who gieves a fuck if he makes teh odd wrong pass or holds onto it for too long!?

Summary:
Plymouth started really well first 10 and just weren't really in it. Then Esse started to have an effect. A few minutes later the goal comes. Esse makes a good tackle, bursts forward and then feeds Honeyman who takes his time then lays it back and Esse guides it home calmly.
They had a couple of half chances. Header staright at Jensen, then another high cross which Jensen drops but then gathers on the floor. We created quite a bit down the left with Azeez, and Honeyman getting involved but the final ball was never quite there.
Second half we were control for most of it and gave them nothing really as our shape was really good. Azeez had a golden chance when he broke clear but the ball bounced off his shin and was somehow cleared, he should have scored.
One other chance was from a corner, Cooper heads down, Leonard turns and strikes but it went a foot wide.
Then it was a case of game management and seeing it out for the win. They only had one other half chance where Jensen dropped it again but the follow up went high and wide.
Jensen, sorry but doesn't convince me at all despite the clean sheet. Dropped the ball twice and is worrying with any high balls coming in
Leonard and Tango were great again tonight, gave nothing away at all. Tango starting to lead from the back. Cooper was solid and Bryan did quite well going forward first half but then held back more 2nd half.
De Norre and Saville did what they do well, breaking up play and De Norre being the one who tries to look forward a bit.
Azeez was a real plus tonight both going forward and tracking back, should have scored, but had a really good game all round.
Honeyman just keeps buzzing around all game, breaks up play and a great run and lay off for Esse's goal. Ivanovic didn't really have a chance to affect the game much but kept pressing.
Esse, man of the match by a mile and far too good for this side. He is just a different level. He has now added the defensive side to his game too, which is what led to his goal and such a composed finish.
None of the subs made much of a difference as it was a case of just fresh legs, shutting up and seeing the game out.

Good summary Popular. Agree the jury is out on Jenson but I did feel for him with the corner at the end with the number of players in the 6 yard box. Must be a nightmare to try and work out how to get through the throng and to the cross.

And Cooper gave him an almighty bump and, looked like he, ducked 🤷‍♂️

Fair play to him and his mates, they seem to do a lot if not all away games, takes some doing when your club is a relegation favourite with a clueless manager.

Building on your first sentence I think we should start naming it the “Esse Effect” 🤩👍
