I suppose a nostalgic look as to how we used to live (for the old cretins on here myself on here).

But fuck me look at these prices to go to a game in 1980.

As a sub note we were one of the expensive clubs in the country to go to and watch a game back then...being in the Top 20%

Who used to pay top dollar for the Den Seats?
I did (well my parents did). Used to go with my older brother and we sat almost nest to the dugouts in the forecourt seats just by what I always called the "gallery" kind of thing which literally behind the dugouts. Remember Chelsea hiding there after getting chased from the Ilderton in the league game at the den, only to get terrorised right by us by those in the seats

I have posted before that when I was a teenager I had a paper round and I got 15 Bob a week. I regularly went to the Den for home games and in 63/64/65/66 I would get the train from Kidbrooke to New Cross for 2/4d, walk to the ground where it was 2 Bob to get in and 6d for a programme and I would have 2d change out of 5 bob. How times have changed. My senior ST is £286 so it is now just under £13 per game. How times have changed!

Don't know if I'm missing something here but the season ticket prices seem odd in some cases. Not much of a saving for us, which initially I thought maybe down to the fact that we wouldn't have much floating support back then anyway - ie most people who would go, would go week in week out anyway... But then if you look at Arsenal it's cheaper to pay for a seat each game than a season ticket.
Maybe the season tickets were prime seats on the halfway? I can't remember.
I do remember the 'book' of tickets you used to get with a season ticket though.

I started off with non-league football as couldn't afford the train and entry price at Millwall on my first paper round... Then I got a second paper round that also paid a little bit more (some coins in those square brown envelopes) and I could afford to go to Millwall! Sometimes I could afford a bag of chips on the way home too!

I used to go in the forecourt as a freebie as my next door neighbour was the steward there. His name was Bob and sadly had a heart attack and died there during a match.

In the 78/79 season the terraces were a quid for adults and 70p for kids. And still not many went. Our average gate was about 4,000.

I sat in the seats right behind the dugout for a League Cup game against Stoke and we scored a blatantly offside goal. I think it was Cas who scored and I remember Mick Mills looking me straight in the face and saying "fucking hell".

My dad and is mate fred sat in the seats and used to pass me over the turnstiles to get in for nothing was only 3 at the time in 66 both sadly gone now they were both fanatical about Millwall and went every where to watch the lions both got plaques in the cbl and my dads ashes are in the memorial garden at the den both Stepney lads and loved millwall

For several years my Dad carried me through the Ilderton Road turnstiles without paying but gave up when I reached 6ft 3ins😉

I was 13 and working 4 hours on a Saturday (9am to 1pm) at a mechanics garage, lived in the boozer next door.
A quick wash, 2 buses and with a five pound note in hand, can remember getting in for 1.50, bought a programme as proof I went to watch a game and would get home with change in my sky rocket..Simple days for me

It’s a shame that since Fred passed lionheart 48 stopped coming Millwall because he didn’t want to come without fred which I do understand because going Millwall without Fred not the same but miss him being there as well not same about me dad because he lived in Spain fo10 years

Same for me. My dad and his mate sat in the seats in ear shot and easy verbal distance of the dugout. Although I was eight, I was still lifted over the turnstiles... :grinning:

People these days think The Den is too hostile towards its own players and management. It was just as bad back then. In 1966, we were sitting near the bench the day we played Swansea at home. I can't remember the details exactly, but we had just secured promotion with four games to go. It was 0-0 with about 7/8 minutes to go and people were still shouting abuse at the players and the coaching staff. It worked, we scored and won 1-0 and the party started.

Oddly enough, Billy Gray left the club a few days later (before the season ended). I think he went to Brentford?

I dunno, we've had some stories and drama over the years.
But I must admit, no one ever said it will be a bed of roses and a bowl of cherries being a Millwall supporter.
