It was good that straight after the game AN held his hands up and admitted that he had got the set up wrong at St Andrews. It was a sorry performance and a heavy defeat and there were few that emerged with any credit. If AN admitted his errors then the good news is that he has a couple of days of solid coaching at Calmont Road after reviewing the game and he can do his best to put it right on Saturday. Make no mistake. This will not be an easy game after their solid win against Swansea yesterday and we will need all we have got to get anything out of this one. Like us they have won 4 out of their last six with 2 defeats whereas we have won 4 with one defeat and one draw. It will be fiercely contested. I am sure that AN has spent the last couple of sessions berating a few for not giving enough on Tuesday and encouraging others who could take their place to step us and show what they are worth. He will be buoyed by a large and vociferous crowd and take comfort in the fact that they have had less time to recover from their win on Wednesday. He does not have a whole lot of choices for change but he can be sure that any new additions will be running their nuts off to impress him.
Any keeper who concedes four will be out to show he can do better. I do expect Max the wear the gloves. When Wes comes on for a ten minutes cameo he looks good but maybe when he starts it is a whole different story. This was not one of his better days. AN’s options are three fold. He can either give him a stiff talking to and pick him again. He could move Crama to RB and start Taylor as CB. Or he could play 5 at the back with Wes at RB and three CB’s. That does leave you with less options in midfield so I can’t see him doing that. My guess is option 2 with Crama at RB, Taylor and Cooper at CB and Sturge in at LB. My mate raised the question about why Sturge did not keep his place on Tuesday after a solid game at Oxford. Who knows?
Other than Billy there was not enough bite and presence in midfield and I am not sure what Cundle brings to the team. I am also unsure why Bango did not get a game. I am sure he could bring more to the team than Cundle. I would start Billy, give Casper a kick up the rear and ask him for more and bring in Delboy who always has bite to his play. Play Bango on the right with licence to move inside as a ten, give Ballo a kick up the rear and play him on the left where he has been more effective and start with our only option upfront, the Serb. He needs support. Langstaff is not the answer but Bango could be.
My thoughts are,
Max
TC Taylor Cooper Sturge
Billy Casper Delboy
Bango Serb Ballo
Subs Coleman Wes Grant Joe Kelly Cam Cundle Emakhu Langstaff
