Tanganga!

Just read from R .Cawley that he has an unbelievably low release clause of
1.2 million but only premiership clubs can activate it.
If true its safe to say he won't be around next season!
Not our best negotiation on a contract putting it mildly!

If true, £1.2m wouldn’t cover our costs last season 😞

1.2m is peanuts to the teams in the premier league. One of them could buy him just in case he turns out to be a decent premier player. What a bad bit of business.

I think its pretty obvious that his agent has "held us to ransom" to get him to sign and little doubt that with a release fee that low Tanganga's wages (and his agents commission/cut/whatever) are going to be considerably higher than if we had, say. a £12 million release clause.
Seems like win/win all round except us if it happens.

We know his going, just hope it’s before players return to training so we plan for the season without him.

it also means we have fk all bargaining power on another championship side coming in for him for say £2-3m. We will have to take anything with the risk of the release clause

This pissed me off more than it should. We all knew he'd be off this season, but for 10% of what we'd expect? Shambles IMO.

£1.2m just for 'Wall to provide Tango a steppingstone into the premshite and I'm sure, a hefty weekly pay package.

At the start of the season, our goal wasn't to aim for play offs? surely, especially with how the season before ended, just avoiding relegation. So you either sign Tango with the idea of being promoted and building a team around him, or facing facts that we were never going up this season, so signing Tango was to purely produce a nice profit at the end of the season???

Almost feels like we've had our pants pulled down with this one as the only winner is Tango and the club who get him for peanuts.

Cant see many Premier teams coming in for him as he is not up to standard yet, he needs another season with us as he has not played enough football at the this level to tell if he can make the step up.
A very good Championship defender with the right partner but still has too many faults for the top level.

In any negotiation, it all comes down to who wants the deal more.
Were we very keen to sign him? Yes
Did he have any other options? Yes, I'm sure he did.

Therefore, we did what we did to secure his signature.

Did he have a good season? You bet he did.

Was it worth it? We'll only know once a fee is agreed with another club.

Let's just hope we can start a bidding war.

Just calm down. We have had a full season from a top quality player and we did not have to pay a transfer fee.

When we look back to over a year ago he came to us on loan from January 2024 on the strength that he knew Joe Edwards and was hoping to get some game time to put himself in the shop window. He did get game time and after a shaky start he settled well into the side and played some decent games for us. At the end of the season his agent put his name out there but there were no takers. He hung on expecting somebody to come in for him but they didn’t. He was left high and dry without a paddle but he looked back at his five months with us fondly. The crowd liked him, he got on well with his team mates, enjoyed the 100 Miles song they made up for him and thought better the devil you know than the devil you don’t. We came up with an attractive package for him, paid him much more than we would normally pay monthly and he signed for two years. The first year is now up. His agent added a low release clause in the hope that any interested parties would be attracted by the low buy out. We, as fans on the other hand knew nothing of this clause and hoped we could sell him for £20m and think of it as good business.
The big question is whether somebody in the PL will be interested in him. If they are he will move on. If not then he will stay with us for one more season and then leave us as a free agent next summer for nothing.
My view is that maybe we were forced to accept the low release clause as part of the agreement to sign him. His agent has been sharp and is acting in the best interests of Tanganga and not in the best interests of Millwall Football Club. That is what agents are for. If he stays we will be a better side with him in it. We will not have a fat wedge to go out an get a replacement. We have one already and that is Crama. I am sure we have other possible targets if we think we need a third CB in case either Cooper or Crama get injured or suspended. We certainly haven't let the grass grow under our feet regarding the CB situation and would have been fully aware of the release clause and the implications it would have on us if he decided to move on this summer. Let’s see what happens.

He’s played at premier league and champions league level already for Tottenham turning in several man of the match performances. He suffered a spate of injuries after covid which derailed his career somewhat but he has certainly got himself back on track this past season. For £1.2M he would be an absolute steal for a premier team especially when you see some of the fees that clubs are paying nowadays.

Let’s have it right, most of us were pretty dumbfounded when he signed for us.
None of us expected it. It’s making a bit more sense now. Sure, I’d have liked a lot more for him but if a high release clause fee meant he didn’t sign then you can see why the club suffered it.

If he goes he goes. As people have said, we have a ready made replacement in Camra, who I believe is a class act. We would have got a big chunk of the wages back that we paid Tangagnaga. He’ll move on to the level he probably deserves and there’s nothing lost.

£1.2 mill release fee is the minimum we have to take, if 2 clubs want him they have a bidding war and we could get well in excess of it.
this is not correct. a release clause only has to be met. It is then up to the player to agree terms.

We have 0 bargaining power if 1 or 100 clubs meet a release clause
