Romain Esse

Sad day ,but can only wish the kid well. Good business by the club, just takes some getting used to seeing our assets dissappear. Hopefully some if not all the folding will be used to strengthen the team.
100% , also it was good of the kid to sign a long contract knowing this was going to happen to ensure we got something out of it, it shows he is true Wall at heart!

Of course we'll reinvest mate. It's the clubs new strategy and I don't believe for a minute a new manager coming in losing one of his better players he wouldn't want to bring others in to replace him and improve us.

We also have a few aging players in the team who need replacing quite soon.
Saville 31, Leonard 32, Muzza 32, Bradshaw 32, Hutch 34, all will be a year older next season..
On this basis alone we need to reinvest
Hope so mate

Not so much to do with Gallen in my opinion, the negotiations for the contract Esse signed in the summer would have been complex and going on for several months beforehand between the club and Esse’s management team so it was probably the much maligned Kavanagh who should get some of the plaudits.

The real credit here must go to the academy staff in the first place, Gary Rowett for promoting him from the U18s straight into the first team environment and bringing him into the fold slowly but at the right times, Neil Harris for keeping to his word after the final game of the season at Swansea and making Romaine the focal point of the team this year and all the coaching staff at the club from youth level up to the first team.

The lad himself must take a lot of credit as well, I’m sure he would have had several opportunities to fuck off just like many others have done in search of a quick buck but kept faith in his own ability and knuckled down and worked hard and now will reap the rewards of a premier league contract. A lesson there for other young players coming through the system who are tempted to jump ship at the first time of asking.

So who takes his place as our 10? For me.its DeNorre with Wintle in Midfield.
The club said a while back that signing a 'No 10' was a priority, I think Louie Barry fits the profile, even if it is just a loan.
Have we received the 7 million for Flemming yet or is that come at the end of this season?
Not yet and we will never know if the money is all or over 2/3 years.
Think Esse,s future was mapped long before Gallen arrived, both Rowett and Harris said he would play in the premier it was just a matter of time and who,s to say we have not undersold him, if his next move is for say £60M then this bit of business does not look so good. Time will tell.
It was Gallen that got him to sign the contract though, whatever had been started before his arrival and that Esse would make it to the Premiership regardless of signing, we can't find fault with anyone for the current situation.
Makes a very nice change from those days of having our top players stolen from us.

I was questioning if him signing a contract, which meant we’ve received a bucket load of cash, was down to Gallen🤔

If it was then perhaps he doesn’t deserve the continued criticism he gets on this Forum.

If Gallen was Director of Football when the contract was signed then of course he was involved but the timing of Gallen arriving at the club and when the contract was signed means that he could not have been involved with too many details of the contract which would have taken a long time to finalise, so to give Gallen any credit for this is clutching at straws.

£60 million is the sort of price for an established Prem player, which can only happen by playing in the Prem.
Palace are taking a risk on a player not proven at that level.
We can only hope that we have a sell on clause.
Think you will find that Palace were pressured into signing Esse due to other clubs being also interested, yes we got a good price but how good only time will tell.

The January transfer market is always slow if we had held out until the summer who knows how much he would have gone for Palace moved in at the right time and got a bargain.

Its at the end of his loan in the summer. Could rise to 10m if Burnley promoted
Can you imagine, last game of the season at Burnley, they need 3 points to guarantee promotion and we are safe. An extra £3m if they go up and we beat them. 😎😎😎

Should have read the complete thread before replying Wippa!

All down to his agent not Gallen , if he did not sign a new contract and went on a tribrunal price, his agent would get a lot less out of the deal.
