Qpr V The mighty Lions- Match thread- 12.30 KO

£15-£20 million. Premier League teams are looking at him already. Some of the things he did today were head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch. What I like about Esse most of all is that he is humble, he has his head screwed on and has been very well raised. He is a credit to his family. He is one of the best young players I have ever seen at Millwall, bar Teddy. Mark Kennedy was good but Esse is a level or two above.

based on a few good performances in a row??

the signs are encouraging at best, but i think we need to keep our heads screwed on when it coms to young esse. he might end up not doing much at all, we just won't knwo till we know.

Agree it could all go t*ts up but in all my years of watching Millwall I can’t remember a player with his excellent close control and ability to glide pass and through opponents.

All this supposition about Esse is amazing to me. I think we’re being too sensationalist! :bounce:

If Flemming is worth £7m, Esse must be at least double that.
Flemming was bought as a finished product but Esse will go with a lot of potential so whatever we get for him will have plenty of add ons .

Whether we get told the exact amount or possible amount is another matter but I’d like to think we will benefit to the tune of 20m over the 2 or 3 years after he has left.

Their manager was a bit upset we didn't allow them to play how they wanted
“It was important that we scored after they did and that they didn’t take long to get control. We know that in Millwall’s games, they are the ones with the least active time by far. There are a lot of set-plays and disruptions, so it’s difficult to build momentum, and we simply weren’t good enough to impose the way we wanted to at home.”

When you take out the time other teams pass it around their own half going nowhere I would say we are possibly the most active, they must have made more backward passes than forward yesterday.

Their playing it round the back for most of the game was both funny and pathetic. Some of the most pointless football I’ve ever seen.

After watching Jensen, just thinking what a massive loss Sarkic was. He commanded the area and had a presence. Jensen needs to improve against crosses quickly.

Sarkic started slowly and got a bit of stick on here just as Jenson is.
I should think Marshall worked with him a bit and probably the coaching staff will with Jenson as well.

With the new players, it's pretty obvious that the squad is now a work in progress, including Jenson. I thought yesterday, and a couple of the other previous matches, has shown we might actually have a decent team bubbling under the surface.

I understand Tanga can do no wrong but Cooper had to go towards Dembele and Tanga should have gone with Frey and, if he had, would probably have prevented the goal 🤷‍♂️
That's how I saw it. Cooper kept backing off, inviting dembele to keep going. Tanganga seeing that would surely come across earlier to mark frey.

I thought he was okay yesterday bar an inswinging corner that evaded everyone when he may have been blocked off🤷‍♂️
That inswinging corner you are talking about nearly had the same result as Watford's first goal.
It was only, I think Esse heading it off the line that prevented that outcome.
Some players had a word with Jensen after that.
Maybe QPR did their homework?

I've watched the replay a couple of times and it looks like Tanga realises the danger too late.

Think Cooper was not only watching the player with the ball but also the player who was making the run for the goal and was caught in the middle, Tanganga was a touch too late getting to the goal scorer.

I think we have to put it down to a good counter attacking goal, decent finish at the near post.

Shame because it was there only decent shot on target they had, the Honeyman miss will have made him sick, but hoping he pops up with an important goal during the season.

Esse is the real deal. Passion, works hard and his skill is a joy to watch. Flick ons, passing, dribbling. He makes a huge impact on a game. Not headless like Fred was either. Also, FairPlay to the Bermondsey De Bruyne- Watmore. Having a purple patch, long may it continue.
