Pompey and Oxford

If we’re going to show our worth, surely 4 points is required as a minimum from the next two games?

Let's not get too carried away. Each game as it comes
Not getting carried away. First of all existing in this league next season is the priority. I’m considering the games we must gain points from if we want to push on. Pompey and Oxford have come up this season and look a bit off the championship standard at the moment, so we should be going at em. Looking forward to this week coming.

No teams can be taken for granted in this league. Oxford seem to have a bit of momentum from last season and put up a fight at home. They have yet to win away.

Portsmouth not so great at home but no pushovers either. The fact that we've won there already this season will be a good incentive for us to have a real go at it again.

I'd much rather we played teams that play to win and not set up defensive with the emphasis on not losing. Saying that we are more than capable of doing the same and nicking a 1-0 win.

It's the strugglers and perceived lesser teams that we often struggle to overcome. I much prefer our chances when we're the clear underdog. I said a month back that we'd beat Leeds and Burnley but drop points to lower placed sides. It's what we tend to do.

History tells me that when we are expected to win, we definitely don't. It's these sort of games we always struggle in. Cardiff couldn't buy three points for shit before they played us and look what happened. Same with Rotherham last season and Huddersfield. If you offered me four points right now I'd snap your hand off. We should go there with the attitude of being hard to beat, keeping it tight and shithousing a result.

It would be so Millwall to end up losing both. If we don't then that is progress. If we win both then we know we are potentially in for something special this season. It is harsh to say it, but as a supporter of 40 odd years, these are the sort of games I judge us by. We played three of the top teams in this league recently and beat two and drew the other. How we do against Pompey and Oxford will tell us a lot about where we are.

I agree that we often lose the games that we should win. We can never take anything for granted with Millwall. That said and without wanting to put the kibosh on us, I think we'll win both. We just look a bit different this year with a stronger squad. For example, how many of us thought Emaku would even come on? Yet he was the one who created the goal, scored by another substitute. Harris has so many more options off the bench this season if things need changing.

To do this we must play 4-4-2, if we start 4-4-1-1 we’ll struggle to impose ourselves and it’ll be another case of hope we score 1 and have a shutout.

NH doesn’t make many changes but Tom for Honeyman wouldn’t adversely impact our high press and, when in possession, put more pressure on their defences.

Champs initial point is a good one. Yes I know it’s Millwall & we mess up but these are two winnable games and if this team is going to be good enough for the play offs then this is a big week. Oxford’s home form took a turn for the worse yesterday so it’s a good time to play them. We’ve sold out our application so there’s no excuses

When you look at those results, both games will be difficult. I suppose that really sums up this league. Best league in the world.

On paper I fancy us against pompey but could end up getting thrashed. That’s the way it is when money doesn’t totally and utterly dominate the league.
