Parachute payments for relegated Premiership clubs

The parachute payments were introduced as a bribe for allowing promotion and relegation when the Premier League started.
Without it, there would have a closed shop of the 22 teams from that first season.

Just wondered what everyone's take on this is, as we seem to get the same (ish) teams bouncing up and down between the Championship / Premiership season in and season out... these payments clearly give these teams an unfair advantage.

Maybe these payments should be divided equally between all clubs in the Championship.
We must be the only league that rewards teams for being relegated.....unfair advantage and with the usual.yo-yo teams gives them compared to most championship teams a fortune to spend.....they say it's to stabilize the wages of their premshit players....what happens if a % are sold and they no longer have to find premshit wages in championship league.....it's a double whammy.no big wage bill , transfer fee + parachute payment.....complete farce

It promotes high spending and rewards failure. A year on year bailout for being sh*t.
I've said plenty of times before I would happily cut the premiershit loose so the EFL can put plans in place for a proper sustainable pyramid league system. It will last where eventually the premiershit would implode. We all know where its going anyway. Super league this, world tour that. All run by megalomaniacs who just want a quick £$.

That's the Norwich way. Get promoted, cannon fodder when they are up, come back down trouser a nice few quid, go back up.
Rinse, repeat.

It is the reason why Millwall's chances of ever getting promoted are painfully slim. There is now, effectively, two divisions operating within the Championship.

The Chairman would have to toss £90 million per season just to get on equal terms - which cannot be done without falling foul of League regulations.

A Catch 22.

And if we did miraculously get up with our present squad, what Fulham did to us last night....repeat times 38.

I know you get around 80 million for promotion from our league anyone any idea what a team coming down gets?

The quicker the Prem League, Euro Super League go's and does their own thing the better. At that point we can all get back to a competitive norm

Are you saying the game is ''rigged'', well fuck my old boots

Its tough and always has been, and no doubt will not change.

On Fulham. They will hand out some proper thrashings this year. However this falling over every time you are touched and holding your face has become the rather tiresome norm for these teams flirting with the prem.

And it would be nice if refs handed out a yellow card when its due rather than having a little chat because their team is actually still regarded as a tippy tappy prem side in waiting.

It varies as parachute payments to relegated clubs are based on the Premier League's broadcasting revenue, specifically the slice that is equally shared among the clubs. As a result the overall value of the payments have varied over time, increasing with the gradual rise of TV money flooding in to the game.

in the first year, payment is 55% of the amount that each Premier League club receives as part of its equal share of broadcast revenue. For recent figures, that percentage is roughly £40m. The percentage is reduced to 45% in the second year (say £35m) and 20% in the third year (say £15m).

Teams relegated from the Premier League in their first season after promotion get 2yrs parachute payments. If a relegated team earns promotion back to the Premier League within that three-year period, they obviously do not continue to receive parachute payments.

Cheers for explaining.
