Can you say there is one positive thing about putting private info out in public, there are many negative reasons to it though.

We've done all we can with giving him a long contract but that's all our power done. If someone makes an offer and the player wants away he player will get his wish. I still maintain that he won't be sold for a huge amount. £20 million for an inexperienced championship player ain't happening.

Not at all mate. My point is a contract ain't worth the paper it's written on if a player wants to move. They hold all the power. Not saying Esse would do it but if a club offered say seven million and the player wanted to go there isn't much we could do. He'll just run his contract down, we get fuck all and he gets a huge signing on fee from the transfer fee that's been saved.

I believe a player is only worth what a club is prepared to pay. We can say £20 million etc but that is just plucking figures out of the air because of what we see and think but it doesn't work like that. Player power and a greedy agent will prevail more times than not.

If it went to a tribunal we wouldn't get £20 million given how much football he's played and in the championship. It's shit but the realities of how things can pan out.

In all my years of watching Millwall, and they are many , I can’t remember a single player with his ability to glide pass players using guile and trickery

Weller and Gordon Hill were brilliant but, for both, using their pace played a crucial part to their effectiveness.

I'm not pooh poohing what we might get i'm just trying to be realistic and covering all bases. £20 million now with 2 year on his contract- reasonable chance- One year- no bloody chance and that is part of my point.

He's played arou 50 senior games and has two year on his contract. I don't disagree that he's a great player but football don't work like that.

I think his England U21 pedigree may support a generous offer from any club interested....

They don't chuck it away to easily mate. Esse is inexperienced and if he wants to go we'll have to take what's on the table. I'd be proper shocked if he went for more than £5/6 million when the time comes.

In my opinion there is almost virtually no chance he goes for as little as that. Signed a new long term deal. I’d expect him to break out transfer sale record by some distance.

According to TransferWise Esse's contract runs until June '26. The devil is in the detail. Does Esse have a buyout clause? Do we have the option to extend the contract by another year?

Assuming neither is the case, imo we need to renegotiate and extend his contract (again!) asap. If that's not possible, then we should listen to offers for him in January, otherwise we run the risk of another Wallace situation arising. Currently, given Esse's age and potential, I would hope that we could get £15m+ for him.

The club announced a new long term deal. Usually that means a minimum of 3. You’d imagine it’s at that or 4+.

Two years until 2026. It's nothing. If he chooses not to sign another one he could go for free. That's the reality of it all. I'm not saying he will. He actually loves our club but it's a money driven career and industry.

That's correct but see above. Anyway time will tell and his actual worth will be defined by how much a club is willing or needs to pay.
