Palace sniffing around Esse.

They don't chuck it away to easily mate. Esse is inexperienced and if he wants to go we'll have to take what's on the table. I'd be proper shocked if he went for more than £5/6 million when the time comes.
He’s already worth much more than that!

Alex Scott went from Bristol City (83 games and 5 goals) to Bournemouth for, including add-ons, could be worth £25m🤷‍♂️

I agree J but the cynic in me plus the shithousery from agents and premier clubs makes me think we wouldn't get anywhere near his actual value. The player isn't interested in what is paid for him but the lure of top flight football and a big wage would be enough to unsettle him and there's only outcome from that. It would be a huge day for us should we get proper wedge for him though! Even £20 million to a club our size is a game changing amount.

With our luck we will get 5m with a 99% sell on fee but will stay with his new club for the rest of his career like cahill

Cahills fee was officially £1 million.
I never thought for a moment someone with the business acumen and awareness of going rates like Theo let him go that cheap.

I think we are to well run as a club to repeat mistakes of the past.
We've done all we can with giving him a long contract but that's all our power done. If someone makes an offer and the player wants away he player will get his wish. I still maintain that he won't be sold for a huge amount. £20 million for an inexperienced championship player ain't happening.

If I remember rightly, I don’t think there was long left on his contract. Agree, that should have been sorted as they knew how good he was going to be a long time before we were even promoted from the third tier. Good to see that mistake isn’t being repeated with Esse.

Dont think the club will entertain a derisory offer, the player would not know if an offer comes in and the club reject it, I also think that Esse is level headed and will not get his head turned at the moment he is getting regular first team football with us which is not guaranteed elsewhere.

By the end of the season, assuming he doesn’t get injured, he will have played other 60 games and won’t be an “inexperienced Championship player” anymore 😉

He'll be an inexperienced premier player albeit with much potential. Would he be a starter or one to be nurtured?

I'd like Esse to stay but, realistically, if he continues with current rate of progress, we are going to struggle to hang on to him

According to TransferWise Esse's contract runs until June '26. The devil is in the detail. Does Esse have a buyout clause? Do we have the option to extend the contract by another year?

Assuming neither is the case, imo we need to renegotiate and extend his contract (again!) asap. If that's not possible, then we should listen to offers for him in January, otherwise we run the risk of another Wallace situation arising. Currently, given Esse's age and potential, I would hope that we could get £15m+ for him.
