MFC landed in the Real World

After years or decades of mooching around journeyman and seasoned professional footballers, the will we spend or break transfer records only to see players sign for another club, days are over.
James Berylson has a road map to bring the club up another level and given Millwall a chance to develope into a top half Championship football club. Knocking back transfer bids, setting records on fees sends a message that MFC will no longer be open to selling on the cheap.
The amount of potential footballing talent signed by MFC in the last 2 transfer windows has never been equalled by previous Chairmen/ Directors.
The Berylson family must be congratulated in their efforts on drive and ambition of MFC.

After a fairly bleak start with JB & Gallen things now look very promising, Crama & Connoly are massive improvements to our squad and already look settled. if three or four of the youngsters we've signed work out then i think we'll be in a really good place!

Long may the optomism continue COYL

To be fair previous administrations never had the luxury of having several million pounds to spend in the past. A lot of credit has to go those scouts, coaches and managers who spotted, signed and developed Flemming and Esse and set us up on the path we are now on.
Previously we tried to do it with existing players. There’s no doubting JB jnr’s will and determination, and we all make mistakes. Mistakes are fine if you learn from them, I was doubtful that we have.

The Esse money is the major factor here. Without it we would probably have done an Edwards. A fair whack has been invested where it has been desperately needed for years. So JB and co have done the best they can do, that’s good enough for me.

Not all of the new players will come good, law of averages I guess. But they will need time to gel as Spackman said. We will need to be patient but there’s no reason we can’t expect to see gradual improvements in our play, and results, as we’ve started to.

Scoring quality goals from open play recently has been an eye opener.

This truly is John's legacy starting to bear fruit.
The amount of time money and effort that he invested in the academy: players, staff and infrastructure is why Romain Esse blossomed and why we now have money to invest.
Don't forget also RBW who came through the same system.

Who knows? Sell a couple more players and we may have the money needed to build the new training ground.
That really would set us apart from many other clubs in the Championship, in terms of attracting and developing new talent.

True, to a point.

The names Theo Paphitis + Tim Cahill spring to mind. Complete shitshow of a sale, so we may have had a time previously where we couldve possibly had millions, but the chairman at the time was a questionable businessman at best, compared to what we have at the helm now.

Anybody who remotely questioned James Berylsons actions for the club are well out of their depth now. It's clear this family are staunch Millwall, and have our very hearts and minds at the core of everything that's done.

Never known a few week period like it. I was fuming when Harris left, we then hit a bad patch on the pitch and it looked like we could be fighting to stay up. The team seemed full of old men whose only attribute was to run around a lot. Now we’ve signed some unbelievable prospects, Neil looks like he’s getting to grips with managing this team and getting his ideas across. The chairman and gallen have done their bit, now it’s on us to fill the Den and take decent away followings with us for the rest of the season & back the boys. Who knows where we could end up this season, it might come to early but I’m absolutely buzzing for the remaining games.

Do we thank olloway for this?
JB saw the money wasted by him and decided to set in place a Millwall foundation, Harris was the first part of the jigsaw....................

Hit the nail on the head for alot of us mate, well put.

This is it though, they don’t have to hit the floor running. This is being built up for next season, we can bed players in gradually and work on diffferent formations to see what players work well where etc
But we have to stay ip first and this league is so unpredictable

Spot on. Also for Esse for keeping faith and signing that new contract. Seems a really decent young man that wanted to repay the club for the faith they put in him. I know I’ll be forever grateful and hope he hits the heights that his talent aspires to.

Yea, this is my worry. Leeds aside, if we don't win our next two League games and the idiots start shouting things again, we'll have a bunch of young players who's confidence is shot to piece wondering what kind of poor excuse of a supporting club they've arrived at.

It’s ok, Plymouth up next in the league*

Seriously, it’s the right time to blend in the new with old. Our defence and midfield have plenty of experience. It’s a fairly solid base to work from. AN doesn’t need to make massive changes too quickly, which isn’t necessary at this point. He’ll see how they get on in training, I would have thought.
