If you watch him with our GK coach before the game kicks off, it's actually what he's told to do. He's always on him at the beginning of the game on certain things and this is one of them I've picked up on
I've never really took any notice of keepers gamesmanship, only watched him the other night and had a chuckle but I suppose if it's instilled into them to do it regardless of the situation it makes perfect sense as it'll avoid a calamity later on.

I think nowadays it’s coached into them from an early age as is going down on one knee to prevent a shot/pass going through their legs.
