Lions v QPR Match Thread Kick-Off 3:00

Whisper it quietly but I thought Joe Bryan had another very good game today making some vital well timed interceptions and was also the catalyst for some well worked attacking play linking up well particularly with Connolly and Cundle.

He’s took a lot of stick recently, most of it unfairly in my opinion, but now he has intelligent players around him he is looking much more effective.
My son messaged me and blamed Bryan for their goal.

Only seen it on Sky and understand why my son would have thought that but thought Tanga gave the scorer too much room and more culpable 🤷‍♂️

I think Bryan was excellent against Luton and Portsmouth and, if your assessment of him today is correct, he’s clearly on the up and perhaps on the way to winning over the doubters 👌

Tango wasn’t at his best today. 🤷‍♂️Sav was amazing the way he jumped and hung in the air for his header that hit the bar prior to Cundle heading in. Never seen him so far forward and assume he has a licence to do so under AN now that we have a more solid midfield with Cundle and Connolly.
Unfortunately, RBW offered little today apart from hitting the post which their keeper may have got a hand to. However, it was great to see us passing from defence through midfield to attack. At one point we must have put c.20 passes together! They’ve finally learned to pass to each other instead of the oppo. 😉 Finally, I thought the ref was good in the first half and wasn’t buying in to their falling down antics. Strangely he was completely biased in the second half. Was he tapped up at halftime? 🤷‍♂️😉

You must have been earwigging me and my pals chat after 60 minutes re: the ref. Fucking spot on, first half he seemed to be the best ref we ever had... 2nd half he acted like a diseased Paul Durkin... along with the baldy lino by the dugout in the 2nd half.

Whisper it very quietly but he charged forward to make a tackle he was never going to make, gets completely turned leaving massive hole with no cover behind him leading to their goal.
Apart from that he did have his best game for sometime.
Not being negative after a great win just saying how i saw it!

I agree but he was at fault for their goal. He had a rush of blood to his head and piled up the field, missing a tackle that lead to them marauding down our left flank.

He has always committed to the tackle in the middle third of the pitch, we have to assume that all the managers have been happy for him to do so, sometimes he wins the ball, it has led to us scoring before and sometimes he doesn't, seeing as we play with 2 holding CM's it means there will be 5 others to deal with the attack if he doesn't win the tackle, if he could win every tackle, make every pass etc as some expect, he would still be in the premiership.

My point was regardless of anything previous it was clearly obvious he was never going to be able to win that particular tackle and for a player of his experience it was naive to say the least ,the oppo turned him easily and it left just Tanganga as cover (not quite sure where or how the other 4 were meant to deal with it).
Dont expect every tackle to be won but he got done easily which in my opinion Led to the goal.

To be fair to him mate Bryan is being instructed to push higher up the pitch when we are on top and win balls in the opposition half. When this happens Saville is the player who should be alert to the space behind but yesterday if you watch it back you can see Saville chasing the ball leaving his man in acres of space when Bryan got caught out .

It’s always going to be a risk if we want to play attacking football but I will say that for the last 20 minutes of the match when QPR were very much in the ascendancy Bryan performed his defensive duties diligently.

If you pause it on 22 seconds you can see that Bryan's missed tackle that was 20 yards into their half didn't put us in trouble as much as it turned out to.

I wasn't referring to you personally with my comments, more the other over the top ones that have kept being made.

Watching the goal on ITV Highlights.

Bryan fails to win the ball high up the pitch but still chases back to put pressure on their player in midfield; Saville reads the play and covers Bryan but gets caught ball watching giving the QPR wide man time to receive the ball unchallenged then lay into the box where Lloyd, given too much space by Tanga, dispatches well.

An accumulation of errors that could have been avoided 🤷‍♂️

Think RBW was asked to do a different job yesterday day with Cundle in the line up. Bit more defensive, especially 2nd half. Nt gonna knock the kid , he's a star.

And a very good move from them that forced the errors (Imo).

I thought Rangers were a decent team and made us work very hard for that result. As much as it pains me to say, they deserve a bit of credit for making it a decent game to watch.
The player they have on loan from Spurs was a menace. Bundles of skill turning defenders inside out on occasions. Don't think he will be warming the bench on their next outing. That said 2-1 Wall and we march on!

Totally agree and think AN has glt him playing as a more defensive unit and not bombingb upfield. It's gonna take time to reprogram him after being told to play the Harris way. He got caught in that very trap for their goal which found him chasing back to fill gap left behind. I for one forgive him that one and look forward to a revived Bryan
