A much better performance with chances aplenty but it ends goalless.
A good front foot start with a corner in the first minute from Honeyman headed wide by Tom. We continued to press with everybody committed to stopping Hull playing out from the back. They looked touch and go at times but their build up was ponderous whereas we were giving it a go. From another corner Cooper headed wide when it looked easier to score. Another corner was full of ping pong in the box but we still got a shot away from Tango which was blocked. A couple of minutes later a corner was cleared for a long throw fromLeonard which Cooper headed wide. Then the move of the match. A great through ball to Sav which he hit with the outside of his left foot but the keeper saved. They came into it soon after with a great save from Jensen from close range.
A free kick from Joe on the left was headed straight at the keeper by Cooper. Some good play from Esse and Honeyman came to nothing but a cross from Joe to Cooper was saved. Some more good attacking play involved Sav and Joe but his shot was saved. Our first half display was encouraging but it lacked a goal.

No subs after the break and we soon got into our stride. A good run from Joe and a pass to Casper which he hit wide. A decent long throw from Leonard fell to Tom six yards out but his low shot was saved. Another decent cross from Joe was just over Essex’s head. It was time for fresh legs. Watmore made way for Azeez. They came into it a little and Jensen made a point blank save from an overhead kick. Near the death a cream crackered Tom made way for Langstaff but we saw out the 4 added minutes with no drama. It ended goalless.

Jensen had a decent game and made two excellent saves. Leonard was solid and Tango was always in control. Cooper could have had two or three goals but his efforts always found the keeper.. Joe had a decent game, defended well and gave a lot of support down the line. Sav was full of running and should have made more of the best chance in the first half. Casper was busy, Watmore came and went, Esse looked good in spells and Honeyman looked his aggressive self. Tom ran and ran but rarely looked a threat. Azeez looked promising but
Langstaff hardly broke sweat.

You would always take a point on the road but with a little more guile we would have taken all three. They were poor, got booed off and were there for the taking. A clean sheet though so that has to be a a positive after conceding 7 over the last two games.

Ave we signed Joey or Dave?

Would have took a point before the game to get us on the board but thought we done enough to win still a great team performance and glad for jenson a clean sheet a couple of really good saves and no flaps for crosses will do is confidence the world of good

I thought it was a penalty as well but the bloke who matters didn’t so there’s nothing more to say

Langstaff was way behind the rest of the squad in regards to pre season and his fitness levels. I presume he's on the bench purely to make up the numbers. If Harris slings him on against the medical teams advice and he gets injured he'll get slaughtered by the fans. He can't win when they think they know more than the management. Truth is they don't even know he's not match fit, yet that news has been widely available since early August.

I understand that but then why did he start him against Portsmouth in the cup? I am not saying he should start the games but to just get on for a few minutes seemed harsh

Good question and perhaps that has set him back. Perhaps he felt Portsmouth reserve were a good fit for him to get the rub of things and up to speed. What ever the reason i don't think he's being held back for the spite of it.

Also it may be nothing to do with Mecca but simply tactical to eat up time and/or disrupt play as many coaches do.

Yes I understand that as well but it was more about with half hour to go it was clearly not happening for Bradshaw and I thought it might have been a decent run out for him as I didn't think Hull offered much either and were there for the taking. My point being if he could start against Portsmouth you would hope he had half hour in him, if not then he shouldn't even be on the bench. We don't even know if Langstaff can cut it at this level yet. Fact is the bloke obviously knows where the back of the net is and as hard a worker as Bradshaw his his effect on games is minimal. We will only know once we see him fully fit I guess, I just hope he gets the chance when he is

Fair point mate. 👍

I did think Harris was a little disingenuous when he said his attacking intentions were clear towards the end of the match. "I put on Langstaff to try and win the game", he said. (or words to that effect)
Yeah, right. I mean strikers who come on after 88 minutes are winning games all the time, aren't they?
