Just Back v Taffs

A really tame and inept performance from the Lions to hand the Taffs their first win this season.

We made a lightning start and had the ball in their net after 45 seconds. Sadly, that was as close as we got as it was ruled out for a push. The next minute Sav had a shot that sailed over the bar. We continued to push and they showed distinct signs of a team completely bereft of confidence. We got a free kick on 11 with some clever play but Coopers shot went wide. A few minutes later another free kick from Joe found Esse on the far post but he missed his kick. They began to grow in confidence with some rugged play and they just started to edge their way back into the game. 50/50’s went their way and they started to press forward. By contrast we sunk into our shell and had little impression going forward. They won a corner and Tango was clearly blocked off. Their Ng ran into the space a headed it home off the bar. They were ecstatic and we were crestfallen. A free kick was deflected wide from George and the half ended with them having their noses in front. NH would have had his half time team talk ready to see if we could improve after the break.

There were no changes in the second half and we took a while to get going. After 55 we did get a corner which Watmore headed over. We still looked aimless so it was time for fresh legs with the Serb coming on for George and we went two up top. It made little difference but Cooper did have a header saved from a free kick. There were five added minutes and Watmore back healed without any luck as it was cleared at the death. We could have played another ten minutes and not scored. It was really frustrating.

Jensen made a couple of good saves but didn’t have too much to do. Leonard played OK but it was not his best night. The same could be said for Cooper but not Tango who was solid. Joe had his moments but he was only half the player he was on Saturday. Sav was busy but was crocked second half and eventually replaced by Azeez. Casper was OK but not as energetic as Saturday. Watmore had a few moments and the same could be said of Esse. Langstaff was almost invisible and so was the Serb. NH looked a frustrated figure on the sideline and the 671 who travelled to Wales would have wondered why they bothered.
My mate said at the weekend it would be typical Millwall to lose to Cardiff and then beat the Baggies. Well…he got the first one right!

Decent first half, abysmal second half, can’t believe this was the same team that beat Preston. Poor crowd, no atmosphere, why bother when it’s on TV? I’m coming round to the fact that Sky are killing the Championship

They are for those that attend games. Be it KO times changed without consideration for fans that have to travel or have kids that play footblll on a Saturday morning. At the same time and in our case it's bloody expensive if you can't do a season ticket. The TV deal has put even more money our way but ticket prices went up too! Happy to be corrected cause i've always had an ST and not familiar with match ticket prices but i'm sure they cost more this season than last.

Plymouth at the Den in midweek- £31 for a west upper ticket. Add a teenager to that and you're putting down a bullseye. You can get a snide firestick for that and watch games in the comfort of your own home. Derby on the Saturday is £34.

The manor ain't been gentrified yet but match prices are starting to reflect what is to come. The new Bermondsey will ( the club hope) bring a new Millwall demograph. A casual match goer will drop a long un on his day out. He does that five times a season the club has netted the equivalent of a season ticket. That seat can be sold 23 times to a person with a tonne spending money in the back of his pocket.

There's little incentive to get people into the stadium for the midweek games where dad and lads should be a score for example and ST holders can bring a friend for a cockle etc. Those saving on tickets will spend money in the outlets and it can also net you future support. But no hit a few them on the nut for longun whilst the rest watch it for free on a firestick instead.

The championship is becoming like the premier to the extent the clubs are treating attending fans with contempt in their ticket prices. Sky want people buying TV packages and not match tickets. Clubs could let fans in for free and still make money but no they up the fucking prices and alienate a large number of current and potential customers.

The game is eating itself but the suits at Sky etc don't care about next year or the year after. It's all about here and now and taking what you can from subscribers. It'll ruin the atmosphere you say?? Nope cause Sky just press a button and they have artificial crowd noise on tap.

I think our generation will be the last that can afford to follow us religiously. My son will happily watch us on his phone and free of charge. They're not interested in the social aspect of going and certainly not if it's gonna cost them£30/£40. So that leaves well off professionals to fill the void made by the people that the game once existed for. The working class man and his family.

In years to come the modern answer to why do you support Millwall? Will be----Because my mate Rupert does :gent::slap:

75% of my monthly wage goes on rent and bills. Leave's me with 25% to feed myself and pay for petrol. The younger generation have been told 'dont do something if you cant afford it' by the older generation. Well guess what, we cant afford it so we dont go. If housing was more affordable i'd be down there every home game.

I know it's typical us to lose to the worst team in the division but I'm really sick of it. We could all see it coming a mile off. This is not a new thing and it's happened under every manager, but why? It's hardly arrogance. Thinking about it, when it comes to these sort of games in the future, I would approach it as a must not lose game where you take no chances, almost the polar opposite to how you should treat it. Basically pick your best defenders, stay solid and try to hit them on the break. If we'd have kept that game at 0-0 for a while their fans would have got frustrated and got on the team's back. As it was we offered them something to hold onto. It wouldn't be great to watch but it might work in these sort of games.

Having said all of that, if Bryan keeps his concentration instead of arguing with the ref for their corner, it's a 0-0 game because they created very little. I noticed how they targeted the left side of our defence all night (and they're not the first team to do that) because Bryan goes forward a lot, leaving a huge space and to be fair to him, we don't cover that either with our wide left player or one of the central midfielders. But picking Bryan as a left-back is flawed anyway because although he gives us a lot going forward, he cannot defend.
