A really gutsy and full on performance and a victory down to solid hard work.

The message was clear from the first whistle. Close down, get your foot in at every opportunity, deny them space and press them high. We just looked like a different side from Saturday. They did think it would just be a matter of time but we were relentless. Bit by bit they got frustrated. They tried to play out from the back but they didn’t have the quality to do it well. Twice their keeper was forced to hack it clear into touch. The third time they were not so lucky. Honeyman pressed high, stole the ball, passed it to Esse in the box who glided past two or three and hit a low shot into their bottom left corner with his right foot. The team went nuts. All that hard work paid off. They tried very hard to get back into it but we just would not give them space and time. A decent move down the left showed some good interplay between Langstaff and Emakhu but the ball went over the line for a goal kick. A few minutes later Emakhu showed some tricks down the right but his shot went for a corner which sadly, came to nothing. Just before the break Joe made a good run down the left and was absolutely clattered by their 11 who got a yellow card. Sadly the free kick came to nothing and we ended the half with our noses in front.

We took a while to get going in the second half. They were plugging away but we were in no mood to let them play. A great pass to Esse from Joe down the left saw a good cut back and fierce shot from Honeyman which was saved. A couple of minutes later a good cross from Joe found Esse on the edge of the box but his shot just curled over. It was time for fresh legs. Tom, Sav and Leonard came on for Langstaff, Joe and Massey. A few minutes after that Watmore replaced Emakhu but they still could not blow our house down. Then we decided to really bottle it up. Hutch came on for Casper, Wes moved to RB and Leonard moved into midfield. But it made no difference to them who were bereft of ideas by then and we saw out the 7 added minutes with.no drama.

Robert’s had a solid game between the sticks but he really had nothing to do and I don’t remember him making one save. Danny was feisty at RB and solid when he moved over to the left in the second half. Cooper was solid and so was Wes and Joe made some good runs down the left. Massey had a quiet but busy and effective game and Casper had some moments. Esse looked much more the part tonight and took his goal well. Emakhu had some moments and never gave up. Honeyman was all action and deserved MOM for his sheer endeavour. Langstaff was better but still not quite the threat that I had hoped for. Tom was busy, likewise Sav and Leonard. Watmore was busy and Hutch was like a solid rock.

Well if NH was looking for a reaction then he certainly got it tonight. We deserved the win and hope we draw somebody big in round two.

Solid performance and a well earned win , silver lion sums it up best, 860 odd Millwall there and were loud & p proud all game and silianced the pompy for most of the game , bravo us 2nd half which was like the Alamo at times but hey we won and now the trip back home before Saturdays next away game

Have merged your thread with this one to keep things tidy and in one place.

That was a great evening last night. We had a really good turn out and aside from the one mainly empty stand it was pretty packed. I think they gave the attendance as about 13k - I'm not sure about that, but quite possibly. Bit of fun and games with ob after who attempted a completely shambolic operation to escort us to the station, which did far more to cause public disorder than it did to stop it.
Danny Mac was fucking outstanding from start to finish and I cannot not mention Massey - what an impressive debut... I watched him in the youth side last season - you'd never think that that bloke had just come from the youth side, really, really impressive.

Can't wait to see who we've got next. I don't want optimism to get out of hand here, but it would be fantastic to have a cup run.

Got back to Waterloo just before 0100am with a couple of hundred other weary Wall tired but happy with a battling performance from the team. As said above a special mention to Honeyman for his non stop running and Esse for causing Pompey some real problems. Massey had an assured debut, Danny Mac was superb and while Roberts didn’t have much to do he organised the defence well and commanded his area well at set pieces.

One thing I noticed was that we played some really good football at times and should have nicked another goal to kill the game off but at least it gives us a few days off from the armchair experts. See you at Ashton Gate if you’re going.

Would like to see Emakhu play in the 10, imagine him running at pace at the heart of the defence, with Honeyman in CM with CDN and Watmore on the right.

Good first half performance, I thought in the second half we went back to not being able to keep hold of the ball and aimlessly punting downfield. . Honeyman as everyone has said was the stand out. I think Langstaff will already have noted being a centre forward for us is not an easy job and opportunities will be few and far between.
Good to get a win under our belts early in the season and we were unlucky not to get something Saturday. Another two tough away games coming up, lets keep having a go and get some points on the board.

People don't realise that even a relatively short trip takes a lot of effort and money. It's going to make me sound a bit of a precious tart for saying this but thank you for your support.

Thanks Slver. Appreciated. Still reckon Satutday was unlucky and down.to one problem. Less said th e better.

No one forces us to go. It's driven by old fashioned values, Love, Family, and social identity. Plus there is nothing better than a live game viewed from close by shared with like Souls. Beats TV all ends up for me.
You're not precious but...!

Most of my favourite Millwall memories are away games. I used to go away a lot but fucking life gets in the way the older you get.

Same. Definitely go to more home games now, but the ridiculous irony is that apart from seeing mates I rarely get back after a home game with much of a buzz; whereas when I do still make the effort to go away I almost always get a bit of a buzz. I need to take this on board and modify my behaviour!
