An outstanding performance and and a thoroughly deserved result.
We started well and on the front foot. It didn’t take long for Joe to have the first shot which was off target. We pressed hard and they looked under threat for the first few minutes. Esse looked a real threat on the right and Watmore looked similar on the left. Honeyman was really buzzing as a ten and Langstaff looked full of running in the middle. Eventually the pressure had to give. An excellent ball to the left of the box found Langstaff and he hit a great cross low and hard into the middle. Honeyman was in the six yard box to poke it home from 5 yards. It was almost a carbon copy of the one he missed last week at QP ha ha but this time he connected and it was one nil to us. They tried very hard to get back into it. Their 40 wide right looked a threat and a good save with his foot by Jensen kept us in it. Every time Esse got the ball he looked a threat and he glided past their full back with little effort. Eventually his persistence came good. A great ball in the middle was played to Watmore. Esse told him where he wanted it inside the box to the left. Watmore found him but it looked as if either he would overrun it or the keeper would get their first. The keeper hesitated and Esse knocked it past to him close to the byline but he reached it and, from a very tight angle he slotted it home. It was a goal of class that would grace any premier league game. The Den went nuts. They huffed and puffed but their pressure came to nothing and we were two up at the break.
They made two subs after the break with a clear plan to get back into the game. All their plans and their half time team talk came to nothing after two minutes as we extended our advantage. A good ball down the left found Watmore and his cross was swept home in the middle by Langstaff for his debut goal. At 3-0 it was game set and match and they knew it. They made two more attacking subs including the biter from their last game. Little changed. With a little over 20 to go fresh legs came on with the Serb and Wintle replacing Langstaff and Watmore. We lost a little momentum but still were a threat with the Serb up front. After ten minutes Danny came on for Leonard and Emakhu came on for Esse who got a great ovation as he left the pitch. They pressed and from a corner which bobbled in the box and their attacker stabbed it home from ten yards.Murray came on at the death for Honeyman to bottle it up and we saw out the last added five minutes before Rocking All Over the World rang out loud and proud.
Jensen made a couple of good stops but could do little to prevent their consolation goal. Leonard was assured and aggressive, Tango and Cooper were solid and Joe had a decent game on the left with some good interceptions and runs forward. Sav was solid alongside Casper who did have a good shot first half which rattled the post. Watmore played well and was a theat on the left. The club thought that Honeyman was MOM but my vote goes to Esse who was a constant threat and looked a class act. Honeyman buzzed well in the middle and Langstaff looked a threat and took his debut goal well. Wintle looked busy, the Serb ran well, Danny looked solid and Emakhu was harshly sent off at the death for either simulating a dive or speaking to the ref about what a plonker he was. Murray hardly broke sweat.
An excellent three points and that moves us up to fourteenth. COYL.
