Just Back v Orient in the Cobblers Cup

A really poor first half performance redeemed a little in the second half but still defeated.

A reasonable start but we really couldn’t get going. They were on the front foot from the first whistle and it took us a good five minutes before we got any sort of control. Joe looked full of running on the left but Emakhu wasn’t really working as well in front of him as he could. Danny was trying hard on the right but Femi was trying too many tricks. It did work once but he was unable to capitalise on a long run. The second time he wasn’t so lucky. He tried to trick his way down the wing but lost the ball, it got fed inside and their attacker got between Hutch and Murray, opened up a little space and drilled it into the bottom right hand corner for 1-0. We huffed and puffed but really didn’t have much success. Langstaff looked ineffective, Emakhu had one good run tight to the byline and we did look powder puff upfront. They had their noses in front and we got booed off. Surely there must be changes after the break. During the warm up Casper and Esse were warming up in their match shirts and that was the give away.

After the break they came on and Honeyman and Kelly took an early bath. We looked much better in the second half. We played some decent joined up football and it really did look just a matter of time. They had little threat although they did have some possession. Esse played as a ten with FemI still wide and he played better. As hard as we tried we could make little headway. Femi did break and knocked s great ball inside to Esse but it was just s little beyond him. Fresh legs came with Joe and Emakhu making way for Leonard and Tom. We continued to show some threat bu no real decent efforts on goal. Watmore came on for Azeez but there was little change in our threat. Near the death Tom limped off with a torn calf and we played the last few minutes with only ten men. Even six added minutes didn’t help and, to be Frank we could have played 26 added minutes without scoring. They were booed off.

Robert’s was OK and could do little more than he did to stop their goal. He didn’t have a single shot to save in the second half. Danny was his normal feisty self, Hutch and Murray got caught our badly for the goal and Joe was lively. Kelly was like a rabbit in the headlights and really looked as if he had just walked in off the street for a game. Sav was busy, Emakhu had few moments and Azeez had one or two moments but was culpable for their goal.Honeyman was largely ineffective and Langstaff was more so. Casper and Esse added some quality in the second half, Leonard added some steel and Bradshaw ran a lot. Watmore added more threat but not enough to make a difference.
A disappointing game and performance which was full of complacency and showed poor team selection. We will have a lot to do to give a better performance on Saturday.

You’re either watching something else to me or the most positive fan I’ve ever come across… 🤣

Bryan got roasted multiple times by an average league one side. He couldn’t kick a ball straight either, no wonder he got hooked. Danny Mac is 10x the defender Bryan is.

Kelly was a positive but no shock Harris. kept Saville on & took him off. Saville couldn’t wait to knock it back to the keeper every 5 minutes, he was stretching his legs ‘literally’ every time he got a chance second half.

Where to start with this one… dear God.

Hutchinson and Wallace is a horrendous CB pairing. Again highlights the need to give our defence a complete face lift. Slow, awful passing and looked like strangers. Hutchinson should know better than to be firing long balls up to Langstaff after doing it for 5 years to no avail with Bradshaw!

Danny Mac offers nothing offensively and can’t wait to cut back. How are you meant to stake a claim for a starting berth like that? Every time he gets a chance he does nothing to impress me lately.

Joe Bryan got skinned alive by their No 7 all game and swung a couple of awful balls over. Where is his supposed ‘quality’ left foot delivery gone? He plays like he doesn’t want to be here. And on big money too, supposedly. Pains me to see him mince about in our shirt, the ponce.

Saville is gonzo for me. Less said the better. Showed no leadership, set the tone with constant negative passes backwards, allowed Esse to get clattered and didn’t say anything to the ref. His time is up.

Not sure if I fancy Langstaff at this moment in time. Granted he didn’t get an opportunity to show his best attribute, his finishing, but from his couple of other touches with his back to goal I wasnt impressed. Too soon to judge though.

Azeez was very bright, showed trickery pace physical strength and won aerial battles.
The way some of his team mates tried to bollock him for their goal was baffling to me. A player loses the ball on the half way line, two passes and it ends up in the net, yet it’s his fault??? That goal was like a flash back to the Edwards days where we’d get carved open like that two or three times a game. Zero arsehole at the back.

As for Harris - I keep seeing him whinge about tired players and the need for reinforcements, why did he play so many senior players tonight including Saville for 90 minutes? He was fucked. Tonight should have been about the new kids and some youngsters.

Instead, we’ve walked away humiliated, senior players injured and knackered.

Also he made a snide remark about Emakhu after the game which was pure deflection on his part for the shitshow we saw tonight.

Honeyman and Langstaff buzzing about up front tonight like Frodo and Billbo was comical up against two 6 foot 2 centre backs.

Their number 7 ran rings around us in the first half. He’s 27, been around the block a bit and is only an average player (apart from scoring a few goals for Crewe) so how come we made him look so good?

Why the fuck was Honeyman playing up top aswell. ‘He was playing as a 10’ - like fuck was he, played higher than Langstaff for a lot of it.

Agreed above, Sav well gone.

Still rather have Danny Mac at left back to defend that See Bryan get skinned again.

Seriously. I don’t understand what Harris is doing there. In his playing days do you think he’d of been happy being paired with Honeyman up front, and a natural centre forward in Emakhu playing to his left? It’s criminal.

Esse showed some bollocks in my opinion. He makes bad decisions but at least he was prepared to try and do something. Leonard also showed his character. It's no coincidence that we looked better when the players that have played in the league came on. Watmore, Leonard, De Norre, Esse. Not that they were magnificent, but they were a lot better than what came before.

Bryan was fucking terrible. No interest whatsoever. Hutch and Murray were both shocking. Hutch was the fucking captain. He should have been going spare at what went on in that first half.

Almost of these posts are making some very valid points and that's a worry.
Was doing what i usually try to do when Wall are on a downer which is try and find and hold on to the positives. If there's indeed positives to be had. Being a fool and daft cunt when it comes to this mad, crazy and wonderful club i have tried to find some positives about last night and the season so far.

I will get this one out of the way first. By all accounts we looked disjointed, lacking motivation and uninspiringly shit :grinning: So unanimously shit that there's no arguments or posters telling each other to fuck off :hehe::hehe: We can't play any worse.

We don't do things by halves and never will. It's all part of the journey and love affair. We could win 5-0 on Saturday and lose the following 6 games. It's also possible that we go on a decent run. Who knows.

I have faith in Langstaff because Morision, Gregory and others have come from lower leagues and done well.

We are missing Billy Mitchel who'll be back soon hopefully.

Flemming to come back.

Azeez looks decent and what a striker needs if he's to score goals.

Both new kids on the block so will probably look out for each other and form a good bond. That bond often continues on the pitch.

We get frustrated during the transfer window as will a manager. The focus will be purely on football after Friday.

We have two home games coming up so can properly get behind the team.

Whoever the manger has been for the last five or six seasons, the worrying thing about our teams has been how we struggle to pass to one of our own players and move the ball quickly. Orient did it most of the game and a lot of teams we play do it with ease.
Have never understood how you can make it as a pro and not be able to do the basic things right. We just seem to have been guilty of it for way too long

I must endorse most of the comments we are going backwards not forward , too many players past their best in the squad now but still getting a game , let's just hope we play better on Saturday when it really matters

Another basic you are taught from an early age is "Pass and move" how many times do we see the player with the ball look up, see nobody moving so he needs to pass it backwards before losing the ball, then throw his hands up and complain there no one to pass to!!!

Our movement (Or lack of it) is absolutely fucking shocking!!!
