Just Back v Mackems

Epic 2nd half from wall. I see they think they were 'sitting back'. As opossed to us being all over them. In the end they were lucky to come away with a point. Apart from the odd breakaway it was an onslaught. Credit to Harris. Inspired subs with two and a half minutes of extra time to go...... Felt like a win COYL.
Just read on their forum that the ref was a “homer”! What game were they watching or did they think they were at the Stadium of Light? 😉 I couldn’t believe it when Coburn burst clear of the defender who was pulling him back and he gave a foul to them. I was more perplexed than Josh. 🤷‍♂️

Esse gets caught in possession at least 3 times in areas, when he should have played a simple pass, leading to them threatening our goal and gets off Scot free on this Forum while Bryan was up against their best player and gets slaughtered again 🤷‍♂️

De Norre (who I think is the best player in our squad) played an absolutely appalling pass early in the game that almost lead to a goal and Lenny had a poor opening 15 minutes but no mention of.

I’m not convinced Bryan is judged against the same yardstick as the rest of the squad
Leonard cocked up 3 out of 4 of his 1st touches . Bryan also cocked up a few.
I thought at the time that the ball was skimming off the pitch.
Both recovered after their initial blips.
As for Esse, you can see by the reaction from the other players, that they expect mistakes at times. In the 2nd half however he managed to go pass 3 players and left them for dead, he was going down under pressure but put his hand down and pushed himself up, brilliant.

Their players were not on their feet long enough to be fouled, forget possession statistics we need statistics for how long each teams players take rolling on the ground, yesterday it was embarrassing and the ref did nothing about it.

You're right but the I think you can still see the individual quality in Burnley and Leeds when they don't play so well.
Well a depleted Sunderland managed to do what neither Leeds or Burnley or could regardless of their quality. Sunderland are top for a reason and must have something about them. We're a horrible team to play against but Sunderland very nearly turned us over.

This is a fair point to pull me up on and I plead guilty.

Leonard wasn't good yesterday, you are right, but he has plenty of credit in the bank and is allowed a bad game now and then. Same with De Norre who has been fantastic all season for the most part. Esse is 19 years old and will make mistakes and I will give him a free pass because of that. He has also won us games this season with a moment of magic. Bryan is a 30 year old left-back and in my opinion, cannot defend. Maybe I do judge him differently but I also absolutely want him to do well because he plays for Millwall. If it comes across that I am deliberately digging him out then that is something I will try not to do, because I don't like people doing that and that makes me a massive hypocrite.

Personally just think Danny mc is a better defender and not sure what he as to do to stay in the team as he as played brilliant every time he’s stepped in

Neither of our full backs are young enough or fast enough to play as Wing Backs at this level. When they get disposed their turning and getting back is too slow. Of the two, R.L. is the more disciplined. Rarely passes half way. In fairness neither got much cover from our midfielders yesterday, and Sunderland were decent opponents.
Still buzzin' from yesterday! Never Say Die performance.

Would have been different though P if we’d started the first half like the second.

Maybe. Maybe we would have left ourselves more open and conceded. Looking at the extended highlights ( thanks for those mate) i think we rode our luck cause they had chances to go two up. We've scored a goal a game in our last five games and a goal per game in our last five homes. That's how we play and are reliant on keeping clean sheets to get wins.

Think we play a lot like schoolboy football all following the ball on most occasions, we were much better second half ,spreading the play.
And this fucking obsession when there is a goal kick , it's not just us by the way, everybody goes over to one side of the pitch.
Leave Esse + wide on the other side ,spread the defenders.
I remember donkeys years ago Liverpool at Newcastle , Steve Nicol tore the geordies apart just by constantly running up and down the wing ,stayed wide no matter what.
I'm sure there must be some coaches who can explain this in my eyes brain dead tactic of all getting together for a goalkick.

They had six players out and nearly nicked an undeserved win. But I think they could go up because of that. You have to win in different ways in this division and they showed a streetwise nature to their game that neither Burnley or Leeds did. The best two teams I have seen are Sunderland and Sheffield United.

I remember that game. I think it was one of the very few live games on at the time. Didn't Nicol get a hat-trick or at least two goals? One of them was a beautiful chip over the keeper. Like you, I recall him just bombing down the right all game long.
