A tremendous second half performance and an exciting draw at the death.

We started poorly and they were on the front foot from the first whistle. They pushed and pressed us back and had much more of the ball. We struggled to get a foothold in the game or play any meaningful football and they had some decent chances and quite frankly it just seemed a matter of time. Well, ten minutes to be precise. Casper tried very hard to get to the ball but their midfielder held him off and held him off and the ref gave a free kick just to the left of our box. It was floated over to the far post, nodded goalwards, poorly cleared straight to one of their midfielders. Hit hit it low and hard and through a lot of legs and it nestled in the far corner for one nil. We could see it coming but there was little we could do about it. We huffed and puffed for another ten minutes and finally got a bit of control but could not really fashion a chance. Their right winger looked a real threat and Joe struggled to contain him. The left winger looked similar but was younger and Leonard managed to contain him a little. They were real terriers in the middle and at the back and as hard as we tried we never really had a decent shot. Some respite came five minutes before the break with a medical emergency in the dockers stand, swiftly followed by another in the upper BK. The ref took the players off for 15 minutes and played the last five before the half ended. It must have given NH some time to refocus the players and when we came out for the proper second half we looked a different team.

Honeyman made was for Tom and we pushed and pressed them back. We looked a different team. Tom ran his nuts off upfront and Coburn leapt and hassled and we got closer and closer. They still looked a threat but Tango marshalled the defence well, Jensen was on his toes and they looked rattled. However, they had every trick in the book to slow the game down including falling on the floor at the slightest touch and taking all the time we could to take a goal kick or free kick. Change was needed and off came Watmore and Sav and on went Azeez and the Serb. We turned the screw even more but taking off Hutch and Esse off and replacing them with Emakhu and Langstaff and going three at the back. We absolutely pummelled them and our reward came with 90 seconds to go. A good ball out to the left found Emakhu who hit a peach off a ball across the box to the far post where Azeez calmly slotted it across the keeper and into the other side of the goal. The Den went nuts. It was very worthy of our efforts of a second half revival. We saw out the remaining seconds with no drama.

Jensen played well and could do little about the goal he conceded. Leonard was a rock and very focussed. Hutch was solid but Joe had his work cut out to contain their winger and he didn’t do a great job either. Tango was immense, cool calm and collected and was never ruffled and was my MOM..Sav covered every blade of grass and Casper had a lot of control and was very good. Esse tried lots of tricks only some of which came off. Watmore was hard working and so was George whilst Coburn led the line well with little reward.
Bradshaw was busy but Azeez was lively and deserved his goal. The Serb was busy and Langstaff hardly broke sweat.
It was exciting and full of drama but Sunderland, despite being five men down looked worthy league leaders. Let’s hope we can get three points at Fratton Park on Wednesday!

You should of sat around me in Upper block 10, Bryan was getting the dogs bollox from a lot of people saying he can't go pass players, how right they were. Esse got some ear bashing by some irate fans behind me. Their quote and can't blame them. He thinks he's messie tries to take the world on. We were good though in the second half.

I know they were missing a few players but I can’t have them going up
We beat Burnley and Leeds yet they still looked like they were capable of scoring any minute.
Can't beat Sunderland whilst they looked more like a side that would be in a relegation scrap.
Sums up the Championship for me.

Esse is 19 years old. He will fuck-up, but he will also make the difference in games as he has done already this season. He is the best young player we have produced that I have ever seen in my time supporting Millwall.

As for Bryan, maybe it's my age but I'm not a fan of coating off players during a game as it is counter-productive, but he was terrible today. He played a suicidal ball across the pitch in the first 10 minutes and nearly cost us a goal, their winger went past him with such ease at one stage in the first half that it looked like he wasn't even trying, he tried to tackle him twice and it was honestly embarrassing. He can obviously play and I don't know if it's attitude or what, but I would have McNamara over him all day long.

As a fortunate manager of U14 football, the last thing you want to do is coach flair out of players. When young, you want them to make mistakes, try things and use thier unique talent. I don’t know what the percentage of players of natural talent vs players that evolve their skills, but I reckon it’s less than 10% from my experience.

Esse has bags of talent and an edge we have nowhere else. Yes, he needs to learn like Saka did, but it’s hardly time to clip his wings. On paper his seasons been brilliant so why not let him play and play . . . ?

It's hard to judge a team on one performance. Home and away form can be chalk and cheese in this division. Impressive home form will get you up the table and compensate for poor away results. They also had suspensions and players out injured so not at full strength.

That's a brilliant post and a sign of the progression in this country when it comes to coaching young players.

There was a moment in today's game when Esse cut inside and there were three players waiting for him to do it because they were obviously told to stop him doing precisely that. In that situation, Esse had to go where the space was, which was on his weaker right foot on the outside, because that gave him the best opportunity to hurt them. It frustrated me no end because I could see the mistake coming, but he will learn not to do that. He's 19 years old and an incredibly talented and skilful player. If he fucks up in a game then we should double down on our support and encouragement of him because he will win us games.

Esse needs to learn when to take a man on and when to offload and not try and beat 3 Or 4. That said he was one of several who weren’t what we’ve come to expect today I.e. Lenny, CDN, JB, Watmore. They couldn’t live with Emakhu when he came on and of course we had to get past their cunt of a 12th man in the middle.

Did that ref play the advantage for our goal or was I seeing things from the other side of the world

You're right but the I think you can still see the individual quality in Burnley and Leeds when they don't play so well.

Esse gets caught in possession at least 3 times in areas, when he should have played a simple pass, leading to them threatening our goal and gets off Scot free on this Forum while Bryan was up against their best player and gets slaughtered again 🤷‍♂️

De Norre (who I think is the best player in our squad) played an absolutely appalling pass early in the game that almost lead to a goal and Lenny had a poor opening 15 minutes but no mention of.

I’m not convinced Bryan is judged against the same yardstick as the rest of the squad 🤔

Watched the highlights and yes he did, emankhu got fouled but got straight back up and ran down the wing and did what he is capable of. So much pace, and was definitely a cross. The more he plays the better he will get. Best squad he have had in years. Beat Leeds and Burnley draw against top of the league team.

He isn’t.
