Just Back v Leeds

A spoiling performance with a gift of an OG after two minutes and a second goal near the death.

It was a poor start with Leeds one up after two minutes despite us having the better of the opening.A cross from Azeez was headed over from Cooper. A ball down the left, taken to the by line, a low cross which could have grazed off Coopers boot and turned goalwards by Jensen for their opener. We did not let our heads drop and tried really hard to get back into the game. There were moments of joined up football but Leeds had a lot of possession but never really threatened. Honeyman went down in a heap and had to come off after 27 with Billy taking his place. They huffed and puffed but never really made Jensen make a save. Just before the break we had a couple of good moments. A free kick from Joe was headed over by Tango and then a good pass from Billy found Azeez which led to a corner which was headed wide. They went in at the break with their noses in front.

The second half begun with them pressing hard and we really did have to burn them off for 15 minutes. They begun to tire and AN brought on Emakhu and TC and took off Wes and Casper. The subs gave us more energy to push forward and to track back. They were becoming more frustrated and we pressed them more. A good cross from TC had their keeper flapping at his near post. The resulting corner was half cleared into a space between Sav and TC but neither went for the ball and the chance was lost. Fresh legs were needed and Coburn and ACon game on with 12 to go replacing Azeez and the Serb. We tried hard to press home our advantage and committed bodies forward which was our downfall. A sweeping move down their left saw a cross into the edge of our box. Nobody picked it up except their midfielder who arrived late and struck a sweet shot from 25 yards for the decisive goal. They made subs to shore up their lead and the last few minutes were played out without drama.

Jensen could have done better early on but stood no chance with their second. Wes was solid on the right, made some good runs down the line and could be pleased with his performance. Cooper and Tango were as solid as ever and Joe was fine on the left. Honeyman ran hard until he was crocked and Billy filled in for him admirably. Casper was busy but faded later. Sav ran his heart out. Azeez was lively but struggled to be a real threat. The Serb ran his heart out with little effect. Emakhu looked a threat at times and TC looked aggressive on the right. Coburn had few touches and ACon even less but we never gave up throughout the ninety minutes.
We were not disgraced. They are not the top of the league for no reason and they had more possession and more shots but we made them work very hard for their victory.

I thought Wes did well before subbed👍

I can’t work out why Wintle doesn’t get on the pitch at some stage. I’m not suggesting he would turn the game on its head but he strikes me he has more bite than other midfielders and is more savvy🤔

Cundle was an oversight. He really did very little right for the whole 90 minutes and I am beginning to wonder what he brings to the starting line up. Clearly AN sees some redeeming qualities in his play but I don’t. I know that Billy has his critics on here but he was twice the player that Cundle was last night

I have no idea either, it's puzzling but the only explanation I can remotely come up with is that perhaps he is on a loan contract that triggers a fee somehow? And we maybe not using him for that reason.
It's a guess.

Think we bought him in January so not a loan. Thought he did well in first few games he played - scored one and should have had a couple more. Agree the game does look to pass him by at times especially when it's scrappy and physical like last night. Not sure he's played loads at this level before so may be one that needs time to get up to speed.

My memory is that there were a few clubs after him in January so, maybe, there's more to him than we are seeing at present.

Decent effort I suppose, we huffed & puffed a bit but they had a fabulous goal wrongly disallowed and then totally outplayed us in the second half.
Despite 8 new signing in January (one or two are injured) nothing much has changed for me. One up front under NH. one up front under AN, we don’t seem to have much of a game plan other than to hope whoever is playing on the wing can knock a cross over or we can get a goal from a set piece.
AN looks like he thinks about the game more but the actual product (and also the end product) looks much the same.
I know, I know, roll on next season (apparently)

Just to clear up some possible confusion here. Unless I'm mistaken, you are talking about Cundle.
Mr Den was talking about Wintle.
Cundle is our player. Wintle is on loan from Cardiff.

I just hope we can keep hold of OG as they are among our top scorers this season
I know it’s five own goals in the last two months alone but maybe our problem lies with the fact that Duncan Watmore is still our top goalscorer in the league this season along with the Serb, both on five

Fucking hope so 😉

I was talking about wintle.

I think you're talking about Cundle.

Apologies Den and thanks to BP for also pointing out my mistake. As they say, make sure you read the question before attempting an answer! You were clearly talking about Wintle and I started rabbiting on about Cundle. Got it completely wrong.

I'm also puzzled about Wintle - thought he's done OK when played - but, as you can see, doesn't take much.
