That's assuming the club insurance covered death? I know they insure players for career ending injuries but I have no idea if they cover death in service. It's so rare I imagine they don't.

There must be. Shelling out millions for a player, they’ve got to cover themselves. It probably isn’t even that much extra because as you say it’s so rare.

An insurance policy that pays a lump sum benefit in the event a player's career is ended prematurely through accidental bodily injury or illness. In the event of accidental death the benefit would be paid to the insured's beneficiary.
