Gallen (& I quote)

Reading through the article i can’t see where Gallen categorically promises new signings immediately in the window.
ALEX Neil confirmed that Millwall’s plan was still to bring in recruits early in the January window.

In December, Lions director of football Steve Gallen said: “With the injuries that we’ve got, there’s a short-term need to try and get one or two in early"

Thanks. Two things to take from that, firstly the article came out around 19th Dec so the interview would have been done sometime prior to that when our injury woes were at their worst so at that precise moment there was a need to cover injuries but as we’ve seen since the new year players are now coming back which have probably changed the outlook (although how long they stay fit is another matter).

The main point is that he says TRY and get one or two in early, it doesn’t say WILL at any point does it? I think it is a bit unfair to say he was giving it ‘Charlie large’ like you stated in your original post.

Again I think it was a bit of a stretch from news at den to run that headline and certainly unhelpful from the clubs point of view by giving fans unrealistic ambitions especially in this day and age of social media where every single comment is micro analysed by expectant supporters. If that was said in a column of a programme or SLP years ago no one would have took a blind bit of notice.

I accept all that & he's probably working hard but he's got previous for these sorts of interviews, he did a similar one in 2020 when he was at Charton (it's still on You Tube)
I suppose the question is WHY haven't we been able to sign anyone as yet?
It can only be that:
Players just don't want to come to us
We don't want to pay the transfer fee required
We don't pay the right wages

I think thats harsh mate. A few years ago I would have agreed with you but as others have alluded to it could be a case of waiting to get the right ones in.

As in the case of the Sunderland keeper their manager said yesterday that Patterson could leave this month but it depends on them getting another keeper in so it kind of shows how we’re often part of a chain especially when it comes to genuine quality players. I think we can all agree that we only really need one or two really good players to improve the squad rather than a scattergun sign anyone policy.

I think the big thing to consider here, is that no manager or club wants to bring in a player that’s not as good as what we have or better. The quality we now have with our starting 11, means the level of player we need to progress is harder to find and a load more expensive. The days of bringing in shit journeymen is behind us. Which for me, is a sign of real progress.

You're right and it means the pool of players we can afford and that will improve us gets smaller and smaller as we progress.

I don’t think players are put off by us any more. If so, for one Azeez wouldn’t have signed for us, he’d have gone to a Watford or palarse. It’s just a question of affording what we need now, the club have done better when they kept their mouths shut, we know what we need, I’m sure they know better what we need. Just get on with it.

On the midfield enforcer side, that should have been in the pipeline before they fucked Saville off.
