Esse release clause

Some fans are quick to criticise the club but they are ignorant as to how contract negotiations actually work. Esse, or more to the point his agent, would have insisted on a release clause being part of the deal to get him to sign an extension to his contract.

What that actual figure is we don’t know but the club really have no choice but to get the best they can and go along with it. It is another example of just how much power rests with players and their agents these days.
Isn't it strange how someone can spend so much of their life supporting a club yet can't wait to find fault with them, without an ounce of proof they want to assume the club are yet again going to do something wrong sometime in the future.
Esse will leave the club, we will make a profit on him, how much isn't just down to us.

Just read that Richard Cawley said theres a release clause in his contract and it could be as little as 12 mill.
If thats true why is it so little and why is it common knowledge?
I read Cawleys comments saying there was a release clause but it's some fan that says it's £12 million - He says it's common knowledge but no one else seems to know & can't substantiate it.
I think it's shit stirring. Of course Esse has a release clause, understandable, but how much is anyones guess.

They can't wait to pounce mate. Some of them have been gutted this week.
7 points out of 9, up to 10th place, 3 points of the place offs. Bad week for them.

Yeh that may be right but i thought release clauses are ment to be secret so initial bids aren't affected by it. I know they do get leaked bjt if esses is leaked this early after a knew contract then why and who leaked it, you would assume his agent.

Yes then why has cowley commented as its expected he has a release clause

The club wont confirm or deny anything so a pointless thread really . Cowley is usually in the know so dont know why he would post anything at all about it if its just a random bod online coming out with numbers.

His agent would have made that a condition of him signing a long term contract... If its true.
I dont know how these negotiations go but would guess agent and club both agree on fee, im just wondering why its been leaked now. If it has.

He's 19 with nothing more than championship experience. I think it's a decent price given he's unproven outside of this division. What price would you put on him?
That is a difficult question to answer but we have to be mindful of the 'potential' these players can achieve for example Sherringham before he helped us go up back in 88 never played in the top flight but when he was there he showed us that he was more than capable and look what he achieved in Europe, plus Esse would be surrounded by players that would help him elevate his current level etc, it can also go the other way too obviously... but if 'Premiership' teams want to 'Cherrypick' the best players from lower divisions, they need to cough up, they either want him or they don't... and/or a decent sell on clause too if they try to get them on the cheap and I think the EFL should step in too if need be to prevent big teams getting bigger on the cheap. If there is no safeguard... who's to stop them?

We have to accept that Esse was in a better negotiating position than the club. He could have run the contract down but instead did the right thing by Millwall and himself by agreeing an extension. If his agent insisted on a £12 million release clause I doubt we could push back much at that figure if we wanted the extension. If it is £12mill then I am pleased we are seeing a great young player for at least half season (maybe more )and the club then gets a record fee. That’s football in 2024 chaps.

It's almost a standard thing these days, especially for a young, special talent like Esse.

Crawley was asked the question by bods "sickened" by the £12M figure.
Crawley confirmed that there would be a clause, but never mentioned any monetary figure.

Some fans ain't happy unless there is something or someone at the club to slag off.

Just enjoy him while he is here

Micky Purcer out

Thats debatable. I think everyone whos worked with him at every level has had the highest expectations of him. He was playing for england youth when he signed the contract !
I suspect that was the case with BCN and I would wager Arsenal didn’t get anywhere near £12m for him😉

The best one is the fella ( forgot his posting name) that pops up now and again on here to have a moan about Harris when we lose. Even when we win he still wants him sacked/ gone :grinning:

Picture the scene,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, We're at Wembley in the championship play off final and win. The exhausted players take the long trod up those steps to lift the trophy in front of 40 odd thousand delirious Wall supporters and there's matey standing on his seat holding up a Harris out banner :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
