Should be okay to go ahead because there's no snow or rain forecast for up thereWhat we dont want is it called off to cause fixture congestion towards the run in.
Ten years ago i would have said the cup run would be great but the FA cup which used to be the greatest club competition in the world is no longer seen as relevant until the final, so why risk key players. They can get injured whilst training but we don't want that stopped. I can understand if we rested one or two but the idea that we send out our reserves and kids isn't very Millwall. Would you be saying the same if we had drawn the likes of Liverpool, Man utd or Arsenal?
Agree completely mate. Although I recognise that our point of view is probably a minority one, and actually we are just old cunts with younger supporters having the opposite view. However, being older, we are also wiser and so always correct.I don’t understand this modern mindset that the FA cup doesn’t matter, it started with the influx of foreign managers and players in the premier league and has now seeped into the championship. When we drew Arsenal in 88 we were running for promotion, I don’t remember anyone saying ‘let’s not risk Carter or Cas, play Sean Sparham and Wesley Reid instead.’
These players are supposed to be professional athletes earning thousands of pounds , it’s not unreasonable to expect them to play a game of football once or twice a week. We can’t just simply ‘play the kids’ anyway, apart from the two or maybe three that are knocking around the first team squad I expect AN to name a strong competitive side.
If we do pull off an unlikely win and then draw Arsenal or Man City at The Den I take it you or the others posting that they don’t care about the cup won’t want a ticket then?
Fair points mate and I think the away draw and tricky opponent are a factor but I wouldn't class a cup game as meaningless nor am I suggesting we play our strongest starting eleven. I would rest the likes of Azeez, Leonard and the Serb but no way would I send a team of kids out there with no match fitness only to be used as fodder.Ten years ago i would have said the cup run would be great but the FA cup which used to be the greatest club competition in the world is no longer seen as relevant until the final, so why risk key players.
If say Crama was injured and out for a couple of months it could have a massive impact on our season, as it is we struggle when Azeez is not in the team.
Players getting injured in training is part of football and unavoidable, meaningless cup games are a risk that is avoidable.
So he's the usual cnut then!He was the referee for the 1-1 away at Oxford last season. He booked 4 players. All Millwall![]()

I agree. Imagine we lost 7-0 with a load of the kids in the team. Their confidence and moral would take a severe knock in my opinion. They can get injured whilst training but we don't want that stopped. I can understand if we rested one or two but the idea that we send out our reserves and kids isn't very Millwall. Would you be saying the same if we had drawn the likes of Liverpool, Man utd or Arsenal?
Conversely, is that the kind of winning mentality that means you win the play-offs?The cup run of 2004 fucked up a decent crack at the play offs with one of the best squads we ever had.
Players themselves even said they took it easy to avoid injuries.
I’d like to think that if a few others are rested, the replacement having a belter against Burnley can only be a good thing all round.Conversely, is that the kind of winning mentality that means you win the play-offs?
I can't imagine likes of Roy Keane taking it easy for any match.
That squad was never going to stay together, we always sold our best players and couldn't afford to replace them. The cup run of 2004 fucked up a decent crack at the play offs with one of the best squads we ever had.

In fact, we have more giant killings than any other teamWe have a good record for beating teams that are placed higher in the football pyramid.
