To buy better players, who will pass, move and create space and chances for our forwards, you sometimes need to spend a bit more money than perhaps you’re used to! JB sanctioned the buying of both Leonard and Bradshaw, and they were £1M each (the most we’ve played for players), and we have seen this season, particularly with Bradshaw, that he is worth his transfer fee, when he has another forward next to him, and Afobe has been the perfect foil for Bradshaw this season (and vice versa), and that’s shown in their goal tallies! Had they been playing together from the start of the season, I think both of them would have at least 15 goals each by now! If Rowett wants to buy Afobe, will JB sanction it, knowing how much Stoke will probably want for him (plus his weekly salary with us), based just on the one season he’s had with us?
I still don’t know if the rumour is true that Huski wants to buy the club at some point. Perhaps they do, but JB doesn’t want to sell…..yet! JB doesn’t have bottomless pockets, but if it’s going to take a few million to replace the players we’re losing this season, then why doesn’t JB bring Huski in as a serious investor (whilst still retaining owner rights), who might be able to throw £5M into the ring (and along with whatever JB can afford), and get in those better players so we can ‘go for it‘ next season?
JB could deduct that £5M off the final asking price (assuming Huski still want to buy the club), but in the meantime, Huski could look at the investment as safeguarding their own future, by being owners of the club who could have a squad of players capable of getting, at the very least, a play off position under their ownership?
