It’s been reported that goalkeeper David Forde is edging nearer a new deal with Millwall, despite the speculation linking him with a move away to Celtic.

He has also recently been linked with Swansea City, who are reported to also be interested in his former Republic of Ireland colleague Shay Given as they look to add experience and competition to their goalkeeping department, but the only thing of interest for Millwall fans will be the 33 year old’s comments to the press recently, where he explained that he had a ‘good’ and ‘positive’ chat with the chairman last week and although talks are still on going:

‘…if conditions are favourable and terms are right, I would envisage myself staying.’

Forde goes on to say that playing for his country will figure heavily in his mind because it’s an honour that he has waited a long time for, so he knows that regular football – and he’s clearly going to get that at Millwall – has to be his aim and he knows enough to know that a big move elsewhere may not give him those guarantees.

Equally, this may also be his last major contract in the game so his future security will also figure in terms of him looking after his family and making sure that he’s relatively well set up for life given the level he is capable of playing at.

Hopefully a deal can be done quickly that is in the best interests of all.
