Northern Ireland international midfielder Shane Ferguson has called on Millwall to show their quality as we head to White Hart Lane this weekend for the clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
Millwall head to north London for the quarter final FA Cup tie on Sunday and the game will get a national audience, being screened by BBC One at 2pm.
With Millwall seeing off three Premier League sides so far in the competition and unbeaten in 17 matches, Ferguson knows we can compete with a good Tottenham side and he’s called on the players to prove it.
Speaking to the official site as he previewed this weekend’s coming action, Ferguson explained.
‘We always analyse the opposition, but with Tottenham being on TV every week, we will know even more about them. They are a very good side with some excellent players, but so are we. We’ll go there determined to prove it.’
With 40 games to his name for the season so far, having featured for his country in last summer’s European Championships, he went on to say that he doesn’t feel overly tired as we go into the end of the season and he hopes his experiences over the summer can help us with the tests we are yet to face this year.
‘EURO 2016 was a great experience and I wouldn’t have swapped it for the world. It does mean that I haven’t had much time off, but I’m fine with that. I just want to play in every game that I can, but the manager recognises when I maybe need a little rest, because I have been playing virtually non-stop for a year-and-a-half now. Just like last season, we’re in good form and have our sights set on pushing for promotion again. In addition, this time round, we also have an FA Cup Quarter-Final coming up, so there is that to look forward to as well.’
With a place at Wembley up for grabs in the clash on Sunday, Millwall could potentially still have three trips to the national stadium with the FA Cup semi final and the Play Off route all open to us this year.
‘The League is our priority. I’d love to play at Wembley again this year – ideally in both the Cup and the Play-Offs – but if it came to the push, I’d prefer it to be in the Play-Offs, because that would mean we are one game away from promotion to The Championship.’
