Millwall goalkeeper Jordan Archer has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for February.

The reliable last line in a Millwall defence which conceded just three goals in five games. A commanding presence, positionally sound, he even had the presence of mind to spectacularly head over a Mark Beevers backpass against Peterborough United.

Millwall manager Neil Harris said: “It`s a fantastic achievement for Jordan to have won this award and I`m really proud of him.

“His development has been first class this season and he fully deserves the recognition that winning this award will give him.”

Archer said: “It`s very pleasing to have my own form recognised in this way but the award is really for my team-mates, the manager and the rest of the coaching staff for their great work in the past few weeks.

“We`ve been in brilliant form and as a goalkeeper it is always your main objective to keep clean sheets, but ultimately that is down to the players in front of you to play well as a unit, which we have been doing.

“I just want to thank everyone at the club for helping to give me the platform to go out there and perform on a matchday, especially my goalkeeping coach, Kevin Pressman, whose guidance has been crucial in my career so far.”

Sky Sports` Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Archer`s outstanding form in February has deservedly been rewarded with a rare Player of the Month award for a goalkeeper.

“He kept four clean sheets from six matches, and pulled off an unorthodox stop to keep out an interesting long-range backpass from Mark Beevers, which is worth a look if you haven`t seen it!”

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “It would be easy to think that Archer has won this month`s prize purely for his wonder save from teammate Mark Beevers` errant backpass but that was more of the cherry on the cake for the Millwall shot stopper.

“As well as that he kept three clean sheets in the month and also put in a brilliant performance in a 1-1 draw at Doncaster where he pulled off two brilliant saves to preserve a point for his side.

“Importantly Archer and his teammates remained competitive in a League 1 season where the Play-Off hunt is a tightly contested race where others have started to fall away.

“The Lions were 6/1 at the start of the month to go back up to the Championship but a solid month now sees them 11/4 to be promoted.”
