The draw for the second round of the EFL Trophy took place today – a matter of minutes ago infact.

Drawn live on Sky Sports News, the League One and League Two clubs who qualified through the Group stage of the draw, joined by those Premier League and Championship Under 23 side who also qualified, were pulled out of the hat for the newly formatted competitions’ next stage.

Here’s how the draw played out.

Northern Section:

Group A:
Wolves U23 v Sunderland U23
Bradford City v Cambridge United
Cheltenham Town v Leicester City U23
Carlisle United v Mansfield Town

Group B:
Rochdale v Chesterfield
Scunthorpe United v Morecambe
Walsall v Oldham Athletic
Doncaster Rovers v Blackpool

Southern Section:

Group A:
Yeovil Town v MK Dons
Wimbledon v Brighton U23
Coventry City v Crawley Town
Swindon Town v Luton Town

Group B:
Southampton U23 v Reading U23
Norwich City U23 v Swansea U23
Southend United v Oxford United
Millwall v Wycombe Wanderers

Ties to be played in the week commencing December 5.

The eagled eyed amongst you will notice in other coverage and the live draw itself, the promoted Under 23 sides invited this year seem to have devolved into Under 21 sides for some reason over the past few weeks.

I couldn’t possibly comment myself, of course.
