The iconic and fondly remembered Mitre Delta makes a return to football league action for the coming 2017/18 campaign.

Mitre, the match ball choice for the English Football League for over 40 years, makes a return to the Delta trademark but it is of course refreshed for the new year.

A redesigned and reinvented official match ball boasts optimal control, accuracy and power according to the blurb and it will go into use in both the EFL and the SPFL next season.

Many fans will remember the Delta with its memorable white, blue and red design and it was last seen on English football pitches back in 2001 and I for one certainly feel old as an offspring came into my life that season.

Changes to the ball for the coming year are described as ‘brand new technology’ which includes a textured surface for ‘instinctive aerodynamic control’ and the added embossed grooves are said to provide up to 400% more stability at speeds of 30-45mph as well as great accuracy compared to a flat panel construction of the same ball.

Mark Upshall, Head of Category at Mitre Sports International told the efl.com.

‘We`re really proud of the Delta trademark and its iconic heritage so can`t wait to bring it back. Our new Delta ball has been updated with brand new technology to make it our most innovative football yet. We hope its return will inspire new moments of football brilliance among future generations – the same way it has with players in the past.’
