Defender Danny Shittu has been voted the Junior Lions Player of the Year for 2013-14.

Before picking up a season ending injury in the game against Derby County last month, 33 year old Danny Shittu made 23 appearances for us this season, scoring once and he was impressive enough in that time to impress our Juniors.

With an Achilles injury ending his campaign, this now doubt will be a good boost for the player.

In the votes, Shittu picked up 18% of the vote to take the Award and speaking to the official site he said of the honour.

‘I’d like to thank everyone who took time to vote for me. It’s always nice to receive recognition from your own supporters and I’m delighted to have been picked for this season’s Junior Lions award.’

Shittu goes on to say that obviously he is disappointed that he picked up the injury he did, because he wanted to play his part in helping us avoid relegation this campaign, but he will still do all he can in the dressing room and in training to help spur the lads on in our remaining games so when he is fit next season, we can try looking up the table and have a much better year.

MSC Player of the Year David Forde came in with 16% of the vote putting him in second place, and Martyn Woolford won 15% of the vote to finish third.
