With the weekend’s victory over Chesterfield putting Millwall into the top six and the Play Off spots, Shaun Cummings has said the team need to continue pushing forward and showing further improvement if we want to maintain our position in League One and have hopes of returning to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Speaking to the South London Press, Cummings explained that it was vital for the sides ambitions this year that they now found the consistency necessary to open up a good gap on those below us to give us the space for a hiccup or two, and obviously if we can maintain consistency in results, it gives us the bench chance possible of trying to close the gap on those above us as well.

‘We have to maintain that focus of trying to be consistent in all our performances. There will be a lot of teams want to be where we are – it will be a target for most of the clubs in the top half of League One. We know that if we can be performing at the same standard week in, week out, we will be able to stay there.’

Cummings was mindful of ‘unexpected results’ and Millwall not always getting what they deserve from games, and that’s why we need to build a buffer to cover those days and the first opportunity is Crewe this weekend – who will be out for the win themselves.

‘The same goes for Crewe, though – in this division, and the Championship, you see unexpected results all the time. We have to focus on our game and try to take advantage of the fact we are at home. It is a lot different compared to other clubs I have played for. The fans are a lot more involved – they have such a passion for the club. That helps us in the sense of wanting to push forward. It is more pressure, because the demands and the expectations are so high. The players demand and expect that, too.
“It is pressure, but it`s good pressure. Everyone wants us to do well and get to where we want to be.’
