Manager Ian Holloway has said that he was pleased with the character of the side in last night’s draw against Yeovil Town because he knows it could’ve been a potential banana skin for us, but having gone behind in the game, he was delighted with the players as they stuck at their task and got themselves back on level terms to take a point from the game.
Speaking to the official site after seeing Steve Morison grab us a draw for our efforts, Holloway explained that the biggest positive for him was the spirit and the determination the players showed over the course of 90 minutes.
‘I’m much happier that we went 1-0 down and came back because it boosts morale that way. Our character was brilliant when we went behind, we showed real resilience. There’s so many elements that I’m pleased with, and a few not so much. But we worked hard and I’m delighted with that.’
Holloway goes on to say that he believes it was overall a brilliant game of football on a difficult pitch, but for us he feels we can play a lot better, but again his delight is in seeing the lads starting to show some pride in the badge and starting to show some real fight to change around the situations we find ourselves in during games.
Of course, he admits three points were the aim of the night because he knows we need to, and he wants to see us, climb up the table between now and the end of the campaign and not getting them was a disappointment, but he knows the players couldn’t have given more last night, and he knows we came up against a very spirited Yeovil who are fighting for the lives in this league.
That’s not to forget the chance we had at the end either where Danny Shittu could’ve won it with his header.
Improvements to be made, and mistakes to be cut out, but Ollie does believe we are on the right track.
